Tell Congress to Support Travel and Pay TSA

Transportation Security Officers (TSOs) are essential to the safety, security, and reliability of the U.S. aviation system. Despite ongoing partial federal government shutdowns, TSOs continue showing up for work without pay, safeguarding millions of travelers and supporting the flow of commerce that drives the U.S. economy. Contact your members of Congress and ask them to ensure TSA is fully funded and to cosponsor permanent solutions that guarantee pay for essential federal workers during funding lapses.

Inside Hospitality Solutions Recognizes AAHOA as a Hero of Hospitality

This month, Inside Hospitality Solutions (IHS) chose to spotlight the founders and members of AAHOA as their Hero of Hospitality. In "AAHOA: The American Dream and the Power of Ownership," IHS detailed how Indian American immigrants faced systemic discrimination, and, instead of retreating, they organized into a collective voice that has transformed the industry. Today, AAHOA Members are the backbone of U.S. hospitality, and our community has become a pillar of the economy.

Lawmakers Move to Close "Hotel Squatter" Loophole in Georgia

A new bill in Georgia will expand the state's squatter laws to cover hotels and motels. Until now, a legal loophole forced hoteliers to go through a civil eviction procedure to remove unauthorized, non-paying hotel guests who claimed the hotel as their residence. Georgia AAHOA Members Vipul and Kataki Patel have faced multiple eviction fights in the last three years. Vipul said squatters often put the safety of other guests at risk, and the new bill will help to address those issues.

How Gujaratis Came to Own More Than Half of America's Motels

In American hospitality, one name stands out above all the rest: Patel. A recent Times of India article details how early Gujarati immigrants, particularly those with the last name Patel, rose above xenophobia to now own more than half of the hotels and motels in the U.S. Thanks to trailblazers like Kanji Manchhu Desai, the Gujarati business philosophy of "Dhandho," and sacrifice and hustle, the "Patel Motel Cartel" achieved the American Dream.

IN THE MARKET

U.S. RevPAR +4.8% y/y last week; Another solid result. Economy segment growth for first time in a year.

As Truist Securities wrote, "Overall, U.S. RevPAR was +4.9% y/y for the week ending 3/21/2026, per STR/CoStar, below the prior week's result of +5.6% y/y but ahead of the 10-week average of +2.4% y/y. Last week's results were again solid, still showing bifurcation across chain scales although not as extreme as observed over the past year. We note last week's results were not impacted by any holiday timing shifts. The Economy segment (+3.8% y/y) was positive for the first time since the week ending March 29th, 2025, this we see as a positive for Choice Hotels (CHH, Buy) and Wyndham Hotels (WH, Buy). Upscale RevPAR: +4.5% y/y; Upper Midscale RevPAR: +5.7% y/y."
