Kagan Senatorial Scholarships
Senator Cheryl Kagan (D-Rockville & Gaithersburg) and her scholarship committee celebrated
the achievements of her Senatorial Scholars at an annual reception last summer.

Dear Education Professional:

As you probably know, Maryland legislators are allocated scholarship funds for deserving constituents. I have created a community engagement process to review and select our “Kagan Senatorial Scholars” each semester for District 17 (Gaithersburg & Rockville ).

My Scholarship Selection Committee grades very carefully and impartially. In order to be eligible for the Senatorial Scholarship, applicants will need to have completed the  Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)  before the March 1 deadline. If a student is a not yet an American citizen, they should check the Maryland State Financial Aid Application for more information on accessing financial aid. Please be sure that your students submit a thoughtful essay, as these tend to have a significant influence on the Committee's scores. Students should clearly identify precisely where they'll be studying, including whether they will be at the university's home campus or at the Universities at Shady Grove.

Applications for the Fall 2019 semester are due no later than Friday, April 19, 2019 at 4pm . Students can find information and the application form here .

Thank you for being an advocate for your students. I look forward to receiving their applications.

Best,

Cheryl

State Senator, District 17
(Rockville & Gaithersburg)

PS: As we can only make awards to students within my legislative district, it is imperative that students reach out to their own Senator . This can be easily verified at mdelect.net .
