Interview with Jeniece Roane

SCAN Board Member

How did you first get involved with SCAN?

I first became involved in SCAN through Board membership in 2023.

What has your life/work experience been that brought you to SCAN? What is your current role?

I have been a registered nurse for 32 years. My clinical background is all in pediatrics and pediatric critical care. In those clinical roles, I had the unfortunate experience of caring for children who had been maltreated. SCAN’s mission to prevent abuse and neglect is so important as we work to eliminate harm to children.

What inspires you to stay involved with SCAN?

I am inspired by SCAN’s multi-faceted advocacy and prevention efforts. The programs that SCAN provides are meant to address, on a broad level, the facilitators of child maltreatment. It is inspiring to see the impact of these programs as we work together with the community to prevent child maltreatment.

Is there anything you wish other people knew about SCAN?

I wish that our community knew the importance of philanthropy and how philanthropic support directly translates to SCAN’s ability to carry out its mission.

What has been the best experience with SCAN so far?

I loved being able to see our CASA volunteers in action. Their dedication and commitment is exceptional.

Are you involved with any other community organizations, hobbies, or activities?

I also serve on the board of Ronald McDonald House Charities of Richmond. In my spare time, I enjoy the beach, running, and spending time with family.

We are looking to highlight voices of folks that have been

impacted by SCAN's work in various ways.
