Greetings!
This past Sunday, we heard, as we do each year during the Second Sunday of Lent, the story of the Transfiguration. Placed early in the season, it acts as an anticipation of the glory of Jesus’ Resurrection and serves as a reminder of the arc of hope that spans this time of preparation.
For the apostles, especially Peter, James, and John who were witness to it, I’m sure they were able to draw inspiration and hope from it when faced with challenge, specifically as they witnessed Jesus’s suffering and crucifixion.
Hope-filled moments we experience now often sustain us when we encounter challenges later. Coming together last Thursday to spend the day together as we learned from Dr. Knight was one such hope-filled moment for me. When we stay rooted in hope, we remind our communities that God continues to move in ways that are not always obvious but are always real.

Please read this letter from Tafadzwa Mapiye, our Director of CYO Camps, with an opportunity for you and our schools. In addition, I'd ask you to please share two upcoming open house opportunities at Camp Hamilton and Camp Don Bosco. See below for more details.
Dear Principals and School Leaders,
I hope this message finds you well.
My name is Tafadzwa Mapiye, and I serve as the Director of CYO Camps at the Archdiocese of Seattle. I am reaching out to explore the possibility of partnering with your school to support recess activities and early release days through engaging, faith-centered, outdoor-style programming led by our CYO Camp team.
Our goal is simple: to serve Catholic schools by bringing structured, high-energy activities that promote teamwork, leadership, and joyful community building, while also helping students become more familiar with CYO Camps and the outdoor opportunities available to them.
We would love to:
- Lead organized recess games that promote inclusion and teamwork
- Facilitate structured activities on early release days (team-building, reflections, and camp-style activities)
- Share information with students and families about CYO Camp Hamilton and Camp Don Bosco programs
This partnership is meant to support your school community, not create additional work for your staff. We can coordinate schedules, provide trained camp staff, and align activities with your school’s mission and values.
CYO Camps exist to extend the love of Christ through outdoor experiences, and we believe strengthening our relationship with Catholic schools helps us better serve our shared families.
If this is something you would be open to discussing, I would be grateful for the opportunity to connect and explore how we can best support your students. I can be reached by email at tafadzwa.mapiye@seattlearch.org.
Thank you for your leadership and for all that you do for Catholic education.
Yours in adventure,
Taffy Mapiye
Director of CYO Camps
With gratitude,
NICHOLAS FORD | Superintendent
Office for Catholic Schools | Archdiocese of Seattle
