Your school offers an onsite behavioral health program that can arm students with the tools to be successful. This newsletter aims to keep you in the loop.
This school-based program allows students to talk one-on-one with a clinician about anxiety, depression, grief, peer struggles, or even the early signs of substance use—right where they need it most. In addition to counseling services, counselors can give classroom presentations and staff training if requested.
All these services are provided at your school, during the school day, removing barriers for families like transportation, scheduling, or missed school days. Counselors meet with students in private offices on school grounds.
Students are referred to the program by a guidance counselor or the school’s social worker. Parents, guardians, or teachers can also refer and ask for services. A student is never enrolled without the parents’ or guardians’ consent.
This program is powered by Chestnut Health Systems, a not-for-profit organization that has cared since 1973 for the most vulnerable in our communities. Chestnut provides substance use prevention, treatment, and recovery; mental health treatment; primary care; dental care; and housing and supportive services in Illinois and Missouri. It is a leader in behavioral health-related research through its Lighthouse Institute.
