Upcoming SR-91 Closures

WHAT: Demolition of the Lakeview bridge is anticipated to require nighttime full-freeway closures for the two last weekends of October. Drivers should plan for detours and allow extra travel time.

WHEN:

Friday, Oct. 23 and Saturday, Oct. 24

• Westbound SR-91: 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23 to 5 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 24, and 11 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 24 to 7 a.m., Sunday, Oct. 25
• Eastbound SR-91: 11 p.m. to 7 a.m., Friday, Oct. 23 and Saturday, Oct. 24 (into Sunday morning)

Friday, Oct. 30 and Saturday, Oct. 31:

• Westbound SR-91: 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30 to 5 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 31, and 11 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 24 to 7 a.m., Sunday, Oct. 25
• Eastbound SR-91: 11 p.m. to 7 a.m., Friday, Oct. 30 and Saturday, Oct. 31(into Sunday morning)

Lakeview Avenue will also close during these four overnight periods, from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.

WHY: These closures are necessary to safely complete the second phase bridge demolition and protect motorists and construction crews. Click here to view the bridge reconstruction process.

CLOSURES:

• Westbound (WB)/Eastbound (EB) SR-91 freeway under the Lakeview Avenue bridge
• Lakeview Avenue between the SR-91 WB on- and off-ramps and EB on- and off-ramps
• WB/EB Express Lanes (SR-55 to the County Line)

Crews completed a traffic switch to shift motorists onto the new half of the Lakeview Avenue bridge and new WB SR-91 off-ramp. Intermittent nighttime work, Lakeview closures, and SR-91 freeway lane closures will continue as crews prepare the bridge for demolition and advance to the next phase of construction.

Reminder: Pedestrian access on the bridge is currently closed. As early as late October, the sidewalk on the east side of the bridge is expected to open. The sidewalk on the west side of the bridge is expected to remain closed, as crews continue work.

Daytime soundwall work is ongoing and is expected to be complete in late 2026.

Construction on Segment 2 of the SR-91 Improvement Project is expected to begin in early 2027.

Crews will continue advancing roadway, drainage, bridge, and electrical improvements throughout the Segment 3 construction zone. Upcoming work includes traffic control implementation, roadway excavation, concrete and asphalt pavement removal, embankment construction, drainage installation, roadway base preparation and fine grading, concrete paving, and temporary lighting and fiber installation. Work is scheduled during both daytime and nighttime hours.

The SR-91 bridge over State College Boulevard is being widened to improve traffic flow and safety. Crews will continue bridge work, including abutment construction, as work progresses. Motorists should anticipate intermittent nighttime closures of the State College Boulevard on- and off-ramps and outside SR-91 freeway lanes as work progresses.

REMINDER:

La Palma Avenue Lane Reduction

One lane on EB La Palma Avenue is closed between Blue Gum Street and Frontera Street and will remain closed until further notice. Motorists may experience increased traffic and delays in the area. Please plan ahead, allow extra travel time and consider alternate routes if available.

The SR-91 (SR-57 to SR-55) Improvement Project will improve 6.6 miles of State Route 91 (SR-91) through Anaheim, Fullerton, Orange, Placentia and Yorba Linda. The project will improve mobility throughout the corridor, reduce weaving and merging between ramps, and improve on- and off-ramps. The project will reconstruct the La Palma Avenue, Kraemer Boulevard/Glassell Street, Tustin Avenue and Lakeview Avenue bridges and interchanges with standard lanes, shoulders and sidewalks in each direction.
