Hello, Blacksmiths!

You may have seen our friends at the Westlake Fire and EMS Department on campus this morning, and we wanted to fill you in on that situation.

In the Multipurpose Hall Kitchen at about 8:20am, a small electrical fire was started after a spark from an outlet reacted with a small amount of oil near the plug. Kitchen staff rightly alerted 911, and the building was evacuated. WFD were able to arrive on scene and extinguish the fire quickly. The only damage that occured was to the outlet itself, and a small amount of the wall it was on, as WFD opened it up to ensure there were no additional embers or cause for concern. After receiving the all clear from the Fire Department, the Multipurpose Hall is now back up and running, and there will be no disruptions to our schedule.

Thank you to the Westlake Fire Department for their immediate response and action. We're grateful to have them just down the street from us, and for all the involvement they have on our campus, especially when they aren't having to extinguish a fire!

We're also thankful for the parent support in the changes we've made to our traffic patterns, as this is WFD's second trip to campus this year and they've had no issue getting to any point of campus, even during their call in August when they arrived during morning drop-off.

Thank you,
