We hope you can join us! The book is available electronically or in paper format, at Amazon and the Cokesbury online book store.

APPRECIATION LUNCHEON AT THE CROSSINGS

Dear Laity of the Texas Annual Conference (TAC),

Just as God entrusts us with many gifts, there are many ways to offer those gifts throughout our beloved United Methodist connection. You might answer God’s call to serve on a committee at your local church. You might take on a leadership role at the district or conference level in some capacity. Each season summons a fresh opportunity to commit ourselves to our common mission to “make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.”

One meaningful opportunity is to serve as a lay delegate by sharing the ministry and mission of The United Methodist Church through worship, prayer, collaboration and legislative decision-making. At our next session of Annual Conference (May 30–June 2, 2027, Hilton Americas-Houston), we will elect five lay delegates for General Conference, five lay delegates for Jurisdictional Conference and two alternates.

Candidate Eligibility

According to ¶ 37. Article V. of The United Methodist Book of Discipline, any lay delegate elected for General, Jurisdictional, and Regional Conference must be:

  • a professing member of The United Methodist Church for at least 2 years prior to election,
  • an active participant in the UMC for at least 4 years prior to election,
  • and a member within the bounds of the Texas Annual Conference at the time when the General, Jurisdictional, and Regional Conferences meet.

Commitment and Expectations

Eligible laity are invited to submit a Candidate Profile form in preparation of the vote at Annual Conference 2027. If elected, candidates must be willing and able to:

  • Attend General Conference: May 8–16, 2028 in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
  • Attend South Central Jurisdictional Conference: July 12–15, 2028 in Leawood, Kansas.
  • Attend Regional Conference: Spring 2029, date & location TBD.
  • Attend Zoom and in-person delegation meetings.
  • Devote time to study and read materials appropriate to the work of a delegate.

Candidate Profile Submission

If you are eligible and interested in being considered for the TAC delegation, complete the Candidate Profile form: by noon on March 1, 2027. Your uploaded photo and profile responses will be shared in candidate materials to help voting members learn about you before the election in May 2027.

Thank you for prayerfully considering this significant opportunity to serve. And it won’t be the only opportunity! Next fall, we will be communicating more information about the quadrennial nominations process for 2028–2032 as we strategically assemble gifted teams for four years of district and conference leadership.

May the grace of God be with you all,

Rev. Romonica Malone-Wardley
