Imesh Vaidya's American Dream | As the country celebrates its 250th anniversary, we're reflecting on the many paths that shape the American dream. For Imesh Vaidya, his path began to take shape in a 26-room motel in Hobbs, NM, where his parents' sacrifice laid the foundation for a lifelong work ethic in hospitality. Through AAHOA, Vaidya found a platform to both grow in the industry and advocate for others. His commitment to the AAHOA PAC and legislative engagement reflects his belief that political involvement is essential to protecting hotel owners and their businesses – and shaping the American dream for future generations. Read his story in the latest issue of Today's Hotelier.
The Brands Went Asset Light. Your Costs Didn't.
There is a version of hotel franchising that most owners bought into. The brand brings the flag, the loyalty program, the reservation system, and the marketing muscle. Owners bring the capital, the land, the debt, and the operational sweat. In exchange for shouldering those risks, they gain access to a system designed for mutual success. That was the promise.
AAHOA Member Sumit Dalwadi recently completed his doctoral dissertation at the University of Houston, where he examined how that promise has held up as the industry shifts to an Asset-Light, Fee-Oriented model. What he found should concern every owner in the industry, and he laid it out in the most recent issue of Today's Hotelier.

The World Cup By the Numbers | New data from Kalibri shows that World Cup travelers aren't driving higher demand. Rather, they're replacing routine business travelers in many host markets, leading to flat occupancy and surging room rates. In a new infographic, AAHOA and Kalibri show that success isn't always about selling more rooms; it's about maximizing the value of every room you sell.

U.S. RevPAR +5.2% y/y last week; Less World Cup, more outsized performance
As Truist Securities wrote, "Overall, U.S. RevPAR was +5.2% y/y for the week ending 7/11/2026, per STR/CoStar, below the prior week's result of +10.9% y/y and the 10-week average of +6.6% y/y. Last week's results were strong though the outperformance was not quite as robust as what has been observed over the past few weeks. As the World Cup reaches its final stages, fewer matches (10 last week vs. 14 in the prior week) spells less travel demand generated by the tournament. Group RevPAR was notably soft (+1.3% y/y) and underperformed Transient by ~890bps, perhaps driven by reduction in Group events scheduled after the July 4th weekend. Upscale RevPAR: +3.1% y/y; Upper Midscale RevPAR: +3.4% y/y."
