Filing Deadline TODAY for May 2, 2026 Election

Anyone wishing to run for Town Council in May must file their application by 5 p.m. today.

On Monday, Feb. 9, the Town of Sunnyvale called a General Election for May 2, 2026, to elect two Town Council Members, designated as Places 3 and 4. Council Member terms are for a period of three years. All incumbents – Manu Danny, Place 3; and Holly Garland, Place 4 - are eligible to run for re-election.

The period for submitting an application for a place on the May 2, 2026, ballot runs through Friday, Feb. 13, 2026, at 5 p.m.

For more information about the Council election, visit the Town Secretary's page on the website.

Upcoming Charter Amendment Election

The Sunnyvale Town Council is required to appoint a Charter Review Committee at least every five years to review the Town Charter for needed updates. Such updates would be to bring the Charter into compliance with State law, address any legal or administrative issues, and improve the effective application of the Charter to current conditions.

A nine-person committee began meeting last summer and has brought forward a variety of Charter amendments to be put before Town voters in the May 2 election. Many of those changes are procedural in nature. The amendments include the creation of a Parks and Recreation Board and the requirement for a Library Board, which currently exists.

The proposed amendments also include term limits for the Mayor and Town Council members and would change the Mayor's term from two years to three years.

For more information about the proposed Charter amendments, visit the Town Secretary's page on the website.

Say Hi to Trixie and Sasha!

Learn more about this pet and others on our Petfinder page

Trixie (two years old) and Sasha (seven months old) are female Domestic Medium Hair cats. Trixie and Sasha are a sweet duo who have a strong bond together. Trixie has a gray coat with brown eyes, while Sasha has a beautiful black coat. Both are cuddly, playful and happy cats who would ideally be adopted together but can be adopted separately. After six months with the Sunnyvale Animal Shelter, they would love the chance at a forever home.

We would love for you to share this with others and bring awareness to the Sunnyvale Animal Shelter's animals and services. If your family is ready to welcome a new member, we currently have many adoptable pets in our shelter looking for a loving home. Learn more by visiting our Petfinder page or calling (214) 862-4525.
