HOA Notice: Pine Beetle Infestation and Tree Removal Requirements

Dear Residents,

We want to make everyone aware of an important issue affecting our neighborhood’s pine trees. Pine beetle activity has been identified in several areas, and it is important that homeowners understand how these insects spread and what steps must be taken to protect our community’s tree canopy.

How Pine Beetles Spread

Pine beetles burrow beneath the bark of a host tree and quickly reproduce. Once a tree is infested, it typically cannot be saved. As the beetles complete their life cycle, they emerge and move on to neighboring pine trees—often spreading rapidly from tree to tree. Without timely action, a single infested tree can result in significant loss of healthy pines throughout the neighborhood.

Required Action for Homeowners

If a pine tree on your property is confirmed or strongly suspected to be infested, it must be removed as soon as possible. Prompt removal prevents beetles from emerging and spreading to adjacent trees. Leaving an infested tree standing places surrounding properties at risk and can contribute to widespread tree loss.

What You Can Do

  • Check your pine trees regularly for signs of infestation (boring dust, small holes in the bark, reddish-brown needles, or peeling bark).
  • Contact a certified arborist if you are unsure whether a tree is affected.
  • Remove any confirmed infested trees promptly and dispose of the wood according to arborist recommendations.

We will have a certified Arborist in the neighborhood in the coming week; letters will be sent to homeowners that he identifies as having a beetle issue. Thank you for your cooperation in helping protect the health and appearance of our neighborhood. If you have questions, please contact the HOA.

Sincerely,

Wynlakes HOA
