Be Prepared and Stay Informed in Case of Emergency
June 1 officially marks the start of the Atlantic hurricane season and runs through November 30. In the event of potential future hurricanes or any other emergency event, it’s critical to be prepared and stay informed. If you haven’t already, be sure to sign up for emergency alerts from Babcock Ranch via the CivicReady notification system. You can sign up here. We strongly encourage you to share this email with your neighbors to help spread awareness about hurricane preparedness.
The Babcock Ranch Field House is designed to serve as an emergency shelter during an emergency event such as a hurricane. One of the regional counties manages the activation of the Field House as an emergency shelter for their operational use, and it will remain as an emergency shelter until it is no longer required.
Babcock Ranch has its own water utility separate from Charlotte County, providing potable water and wastewater needs to Babcock Ranch residents. In the event of a boil water notice, the utility will notify Babcock Ranch residents with communications such as this email.
Resources for Babcock Ranch Residents
Besides TV and radio reports, there are numerous storm resources available online and in printed form:

A Push in the Right Direction
A heartfelt THANK YOU to the two young women who went out of their way to help a visitor in need. While visiting Babcock Ranch to assist her sister with their 99-year-old father, a woman found herself stranded in a golf cart with a dead battery just as she turned onto the street. While one car drove by, two kind-hearted girls out for a walk stopped and pushed the golf cart all the way home and into the driveway.
Your kindness and effort did not go unnoticed—thank you for making a difference!

Do you have a story to share? We’d love to hear it! Submit your “Acts of Kindness” to the Communications Department and help us recognize the amazing people who go above and beyond in our community. Your story may be featured in an upcoming newsletter or social media post!
Let’s celebrate kindness, one good deed at a time.

Generators
Did you know that, in the highly unlikely event of an extended power outage in Babcock Ranch, homeowners can deploy an electric generator as a backup? Gas-powered emergency generators can provide comfort and peace of mind by providing a reliable source of electricity, ensuring essential appliances like air conditioners, refrigerators, medical equipment, and security systems continue to function.
In Babcock Ranch, emergency electric generators need to be permanently installed, must conform to all regulatory and local government codes, and be approved by the Founders Review Committee.
External equipment like generators must be mounted on a concrete pad at ground level and be fully screened by mature landscaping to block view from adjacent properties and public areas. Pipes and connection points must be painted to match the house color and minimize visual impact if outside of screened landscaping. Pads may not be placed or installed up to any easement. ARC applications need to be submitted at babcockranchliving.com.
Please take some time to review the Community Guidelines, and feel free to contact brrastandards@ccmcnet.com or babcockarc@ccmcnet.com should you have any questions.

Species: Bald Eagle (Haliaeetus leucocephalus)
Location: Sunset Park

Christina's Take: Insights from Babcock Ranch Environmental Mitigation Manager & Wildlife Biologist Christina Kontos:
| |
- The bald eagle has been the national emblem of the United States since 1782, a spiritual symbol for natives, and has a remarkable conservation success story. It is well-respected and breathtakingly regal.
- This raptor became extremely rare during the mid-to-late 1900s because they were a victim of trapping, shooting, poisoning, and suffered from reproductive failures due to pesticides such as DDT. Once protected under the Endangered Species Act in 1978 and with the ban of DDT, their population began to recover to stability in 2007.
- The bald eagle dwarfs other bird-of-prey species with females that have a wingspan of 7.2 ft and are larger than their male counterparts, which have a wingspan of 6.4 ft.
- An adult bald eagle is dark brown with a white head and tail, yellow bill, eyes, legs, and feet, while a juvenile bald eagle is mostly dark brown with dark brown eyes, gray or black bill, and some white patches or spots on its tail, belly, and underside of its wings. As juveniles mature, they often lose the white on their bodies and gain more white plumage on their head and tail. Did you know that the full adult plumage for bald eagles typically appears within their fifth year of life?!
- Florida has one of the densest concentrations of nesting bald eagles in the U.S., and one of their courtship displays is when a male and female fly high into the sky, lock talons, and cartwheel downward together towards the earth, only to break off at the last moment before colliding with the ground.
- Bald eagles often harass osprey that have successfully captured prey with a mid-air dance of dogfighting until the osprey drops its fish for the eagle to snatch up and enjoy its stolen meal.

Water Wisely: Seasonal Irrigation Tips for Your Landscape
Your yard’s irrigation needs vary each day based on factors such as temperature, humidity, evapotranspiration rates, and sun exposure (e.g., cloud cover). The run times provided here serve as general guidelines and should be adjusted seasonally to reflect changes throughout the year.
Modern smart irrigation systems can help optimize water use by connecting to local weather stations and adjusting run times daily based on real-time conditions. These systems require a strong Wi-Fi signal to stay connected and receive regular updates.
For more information or assistance with the installation of smart irrigation controllers, please contact your local landscape contractor.
