Greetings!
I think back when I first was asked to take on the role as interim superintendent, and I wondered exactly what is it that this role takes on? Michael Fullan’s book, Nuance, defines nuanced leaders as: “…having a curiosity about what is possible, openness to other people, sensitivity to context, and a loyalty to a better future.” The book was published before the pandemic, but the definition seems to accurately encompass what we have had to intuit for the past 26 months – sensitivity to context. I note regularly as I visit with school leaders how remarkably resilient and persistent all have been and continue to be in face of changing circumstances. I am struck with the willingness of all to work for the better future while keeping every person’s needs in the line of vision. Dr. Fullan goes on to state, “They (leaders) foster sinews of success. They are humble in the face of challenges, determined for the group to be successful, and proud to celebrate success.” Thank you to our leaders in the Archdiocese of Seattle Catholic schools. As a community, you have blessed our schools with the ability to be the Nuanced Leaders required for our time. I pray that you do take the time to celebrate the success of completing this school year!
We continue to keep you in our prayers of gratitude,
KRISTIN DIXON | Superintendent
Office for Catholic Schools | Archdiocese of Seattle
