VOLUNTEER SIGN UP OPPORTUNITIES

Sorry for the typo in the first message!

The Fall Field Trip information is corrected below.

FALL FIELD TRIP OVERNIGHT STAY

4-8th graders will be in Franconia, NH Wednesday-Friday, September2-4. We encourage parents to join us for any part of the field trip that they can, whether it's part of the day, a meal, a night, or the whole three days, as only the 4-8th graders do. We only need you to follow the link and sign if if we need to save a bed for you, and can thus count on you to supervise students at bedtime, overnight, and getting organized in the morning.

PARENT FUNDRAISER: MUMS & BULBS

In the fall, many of us enjoy thinking about color and want to have potted mums at home, or know that our future selves will be excited to see early spring colors if we plan bulbs now! They also make great gifts. This is an easy “catalogue-style” sale where a portion of the proceeds from each order benefits Riverside. Sign up below to help manage the orders.

BURKE FALL FESTIVAL PARADE COORDINATION

Help Riverside take part in the broader community by being part of the Fall Festival Parade, Saturday, September 26. The theme this year is The Wild Kingdom (wildlife in the NEK). We have a truck and trailer loaned to us (with a driver) for the day. We just need a little more help.

SOCCER SUPPORT

COACHING ASSISTANCE: Sometimes Coach Sean needs help breaking the team up into small groups during practice, or covering a practice or game when he has to be elsewhere. If you can plan to lend a hand with the team, please sign up here.

HOME GAME REFEREES: If you are confident in your understanding of the rules of soccer and would enjoy being at the center of our home games, please consider helping by refereeing a game or two! We can provide you with a whistle, a stopwatch, and yellow & red cards, which hardly ever have to be used!

SOCCER GAME SNACKS

The team would appreciate it if a few parents could sign up to bring healthy snacks for half time of our games, both home and away.  Typical treats include fruit, nuts, cookies, trail mix, or muffins.

PARENT FUNDRAISER: YARD SALE

Saturday, October 3 is our Fall Festival and 75-Family Yard Sale, known throughout the Lyndonville community. We need many, many volunteers to work shifts under the direction of our crew of managers/chair people.

RACE BACK TO SCHOOL

This event, on Thursday, October 1, after school, is for the whole NEK community and those who visit Kingdom Trails. Pledges raised by Riverside families and friends, according to the laps and points they earn, will go directly toward financial assistance for future Riverside students.  Kingdom Trails may ask us for more volunteers to help with the whole event. Also, let us know if you plan to register yourself or a team, and if you’d be willing to help recruit others.

SUBSTITUTE TEACHING

We are striving to build our list of friends willing to lend a hand when teachers are sick or have other obligations. Feel free to express your preference for only being called well in advance, for specific age groups, or for subject areas.

POST FIELD TRIP TEACHER TREATS

When teachers come back from day- and overnight-field trips, they’ve worked extra hard to plan complicated learning experiences and to care for students above and beyond the normal school day routines. The PAG would like to thank them with a tradition of finding treats and messages of gratitude when they return. If you sign up here, a PAG member will reach out to see if you can help after a particular upcoming trip.

RIVERSIDE BAKERS
This is a popular group! You will get an email about a week before an event and asked to send in an item. Events such as Open Houses, Plays, Festival Days/Events, and other fundraisers are better with tasty treats. It is understood that you will probably not be available to bake for each event, but when you can, you’ll be welcomed!
ANNUAL FUND HELPERS

Each year we strive to personalize as many of our annual appeal letters as possible. Envelope stuffers will be invited to spend 1-2 hours in the office folding, stuffing, and sticking labels to our biggest mailing of the year. Note writers will be oriented to how we do that, invited to meet for snacks and conversation with their favorite pen, and given a pile of 30-50 letters to personalize, encouraging them to donate to Riverside.

CONFERENCE SNACKS
Riverside faculty work long days while meeting with parents and students twice this year. We are very grateful to a small group of volunteers who will provide us with some simple, finger foods to sustain us!

SKI CHAPERONES

You will be asked to help transport, supervise, and/or ski/ride with students at Burke Mountain or Kingdom Trails for each of 6 Friday afternoons in January and, February. We will ask you to pay for your ticket (<$20) and rentals (<$15), if you do not already have a pass or equipment.

SUNSHINE GROUP

This group will try to attend to the needs and celebrations of our students, teachers, and their families. If there is a family emergency, birth, or faculty member leaving, these volunteers would notice and choose an appropriate way to address it.
PARENT FUNDRAISER: WINTER TRIVIA NIGHT

In an effort to help reach the $25,000 goal for parent-led fundraisers, we'd like to have an adult-friendly, fun, evening event in January or February at a local venue this winter. We hope that it welcomes friendly adults outside of the Riverside parent community to share in their love of and pride in trivial knowledge!

BUILDING AND GROUNDS MAINTENANCE
We work as a community to maintain our unique and historic facilities and grounds. Parent volunteers are an essential part of meeting its needs. Please let us know if you are willing and your specific skills.
OFFICE HELP
Sometimes we need an extra hand with mailings, filing, data entry, or answering phones, especially when our business manager has other commitments. If you’re willing to lend a hand in the front office, we’d appreciate it.

SPRING PLANT SALE

We had our first plant sale last year and it was a great success. We're looking forward to growing the event a bit more, and it is already scheduled for Saturday, May 29. Many of the tasks below are done in late winter/early spring.

PROGRAM ENRICHMENT
Do you have a skill, talent, or hobby that could enrich our program for students? Engaging active learners involves sharing with them all that our supportive community has to offer. Construction? Ceramics? Fitness? Martial Arts? Photography? World Languages? Yoga?
PARENT FUNDRAISER: SPRING SEED SALE

Beginning in early March, work with High Mowing Seeds to coordinate a seed sale fundraiser, where 50% of sales are donated back to Riverside. Coordinating involves writing notes and updates for the Monday Memo, getting order forms out to all families and collecting them, picking up seeds and organizing them for delivery at Riverside.

MIDDLE SCHOOL PLAY

We rely on parent help with costumes, props, set construction, and general supervision. Parent volunteers would be supervising students and facilitating their creative process and collaboration. Some of these efforts happen over weeks in advance during January-March, some just the week of March 16-20, or day of the performances March 20-21.

STANDARDIZED TESTING PROCTOR

This will involve receiving a brief orientation and sitting with students while they complete standardized testing, which takes place in April and May. You will be able to multitask with your own work.

BIKE TO SCHOOL LEADER

We have a tradition of biking to school on the last regular day of the year. It's essential that we keep groups small and developmentally appropriate. Would you be willing to bike with some younger students who needed support on the morning of June 5?

DANCE CHAPERONES
Not at all like the stereotype you may have in mind, our “dances” often include our whole student body, plenty of student-led games and activities, and a casual and fun time had by all. Don’t let your child tell you they don’t want you there, it’s a great time to get to know other kids and to support the faculty who are also there.
SPRING FIELD TRIP CHAPERONE

We rely heavily on parents to transport and supervise small groups of kids throughout this annual adventure. Please make sure you are willing to drive your car with students and to sleep in a room with students. This year our trip, location TBD, will be May 12-14.
