Washington State Board of Education
Weekly Update | February 3
Legislative Session Highlights (so far)

The flurry of activity continues up on the hill, with over 2,900 bills already in play! This includes over 1,200 bills introduced since the start of session, plus about 1,700 reintroduced from last year (not counting about 500 that were adopted into law). Common themes include child care access, behavioral health supports, and school funding.

Two Swear In at Board Meeting in Tumwater

Two new Board Members were sworn in at the State Board of Education Meeting in January (both photographed with Chair Peter Maier).

Quote from Mary
"After many years of working on education policy, while data is something that informs what I do, I am always seeing children’s faces behind the numbers..."

Quote from Jan
"...it’s in the vision, that’s the heartbeat. That vision has a deep respect for students and learning, and that’s what rose up in my heart when I was considered for this position..."

Find out more about these two new Members and what they bring to the Board on the SBE blog .
