November 2025 — Urban League of San Diego County

"Elections, Economics, and Ethics: Building Our Region Together"

As we enter this season of gratitude and civic reflection, November reminds us of the power of participation—both at the ballot box and in our communities. The choices we make today shape the future of our families, our neighborhoods, and our region for generations to come.

At the Urban League of San Diego County, we believe that economics and elections go hand in hand. Every vote cast is a voice for economic opportunity, affordable housing, quality education, and fair access to jobs. Our mission is clear: to ensure that all in our region—regardless of zip code—have the tools and support needed to achieve economic empowerment and equality.

Unity is at the heart of progress. Now more than ever, our region needs leaders, neighbors, and partners who will rise above division to focus on what connects us—our shared vision for a thriving, inclusive San Diego, Orange County, and Inland Empire. When we come together, we not only strengthen our democracy but also our local economy and open new doors to collective success.

As we approach the end of 2025 and look ahead to a new year, let us continue to invest in one another—through civic engagement, through economic participation, and through the spirit of collaboration. Together, we can build a stronger, more united region.

With purpose and ethical behavior,

Editorial Opinion

Violence and Privilege

BY HERMAN C. COLLINS, Public Affairs Consultant

URBAN LEAGUE OF SAN DIEGO COUNTY

“America is not ‘a proposition’ or a shared set of values. Instead, it is a country for white people descended from European settlers, whose accomplishments should not be diminished by acknowledging the people that some of them enslaved, the Native Americans they killed, or anyone else denied equal rights at the founding.” - Missouri Sen. Eric Schmitt (9/15/2025) openly promoted white supremacism in a recent public statement.

Could the words of Senator Schmitt reflect the core of privilege in America?

Health and Wellness Directory

We want to help you with tools to "Thrive in 2025"!

Do you have a business that provides health and wellness for individuals and families in the County of San Diego, Orange County, or the Inland Empire?

We are creating a Health & Wellness Directory housed on the Urban League of San Diego County website. This will include a behavioral health directory and a general health and wellness directory. According to the attendees of our Fireside Chats, areas in our communities lack health resources and need more urgent care facilities, especially ones open after 5 p.m. Our young families need a directory and a resource toolkit that includes accepted insurance information and medical professionals with cultural sensitivity training for diverse community members. This will be an online business list versus a case management site. Individuals will be directed to contact hotlines if they need to speak to a live person or need case management services.

This can be mental health, medical health, doula professional health, promotoras/ community health worker, physical health, fitness, or nutritional health businesses. This can be small, extensive, private practice, or consulting businesses.
