Recently we helped a mother who is working to build a new life for her, and children show her children she will never always work to make them feel special on their special day. This is what she had to say,
"We are a family fleeing domestic violence. This created a lot of fear and hopelessness and wariness of other people/organizations. [The difference the party made was] Night and Day. There was so much light. It felt like a normal birthday. He felt like a normal kid. He didn't feel left out. He yelled in excitement! He also carried the confidence that he knows mom would pull it off. The Birthday Dreams Team was wonderful. I wish I could convey how much this means to me. Thank you."
With your continued support, we are committed to bringing hope and joy to the community we serve through the gift of a birthday celebration.
| | Volunteer Spotlight | Marissa Rainforest | | |
Marissa Rainforest first learned about Birthday Dreams in February 2026 and immediately knew it was something she wanted to be part of. She said, “Growing up, my family didn’t always have the means to celebrate birthdays the way many families do, so being able to provide a child with a special birthday cake feels incredibly meaningful to me. I know firsthand how much those small acts of kindness can matter.”
Marissa, who volunteers by baking cakes for Birthday Dreams, said, “What I enjoy most is knowing that each cake is made specifically for one child and their celebration. There is something very fulfilling about creating something homemade and special that helps make a birthday memorable. Creativity has always been a huge part of my life, whether through painting, baking, music, or other artistic projects.”
Birthday Dreams is incredibly grateful that Marissa has chosen to donate her time and talent to our cause.

Marissa is an artist who works primarily with acrylic and mixed media. She recently completed her first window mural for a local business. She enjoys hiking, gardening, swimming, working out, playing video games, playing guitar and bass, and reading in both print and braille. Marissa shared, "At 19, I was diagnosed with Stargardt disease, a rare eye condition that causes progressive central vision loss." Marissa learned braille so she would always be able to read and has completed trainings that allow her to continue doing the activities that are important to her. She says, “In many ways, my vision loss has helped me grow as both a person and an artist by teaching me resilience, adaptability, and a new way of experiencing the world. I feel incredibly fortunate to be able to continue creating art, baking cakes, and contributing to organizations like Birthday Dreams. Knowing that something I make can help a child feel celebrated on their birthday is truly rewarding.”
For anyone considering volunteering, Marissa said, “Don’t hesitate, just jump in. It feels wonderful to be able to help others and make a positive difference in someone’s life.”

King County Elections
Devon Lang is a longtime supporter of Birthday Dreams. When she contacted us to be included in the quarterly team building event for the Election Services Team at King County Elections we were honored. It means so much when our volunteers believe in us enough to take us into their place of business. King County Elections purchased the supplies and together this team made over 300 birthday party hats!

At Birthday Dreams, we believe that every child deserves to feel special on their birthday. We work tirelessly to bring hope, joy, and a sense of self-worth to homeless children with the gift of a birthday party. We understand that a birthday party may seem like a small gesture, but to these children, it means the world.
Our parties are more than just cake and presents. They are a celebration of life, of resilience, and of the human spirit. They are a reminder that no child is forgotten, and that every child deserves to be seen, heard, and loved.
Thank you to all our donors and volunteers who bring so much joy to the children we serve.
