Greenport In The News
Stories from the media featuring our village or its residents.

-
The paid parking program is designed to spread the financial burden of infrastructure maintenance with those who enjoy our community rather than place the entire burden on our residents. More information is available on the Village website.
- In 2025, from Memorial Day to Columbus Day the Village collected $100,000 through the paid parking program.
- In 2026, paid parking expanded from Front and Main Streets to include the Adam’s Street parking lot. Out of all of the available parking spots in the downtown area of the Village, 60% are unpaid and 40% of avail spots are part of the paid parking program. The program is expected to generate approximately $160,000 in revenue.
- Plans are underway to consider a resident parking pass roll-out 2027. Consideration and logistics for employers to provide employee parking passes continue to be discussed.
| - The Village Radio tower generates $330,000 in revenue annually for the Village. Tower management, maintenance and improvements to infrastructure are essential and would support increased revenue opportunities. Identification of prospective operators is underway.

- Eagle Scout Project, Benches in Moore's Woods - Alex Rowsom
- Alex shared plans for fixing two existing benches and adding two new ones at no cost to the Village with donations from Hommel Plumbing
- Moore's Woods Kiosk Project - Noelle Stevenson
- Noelle shared plans for the erecting of Kiosk near the mini-train at the trail head for Moore’s Woods.
-
Content would include historical information, a QR code to link to Nature Study, tick warnings, and potentially a trail map.
- Future collaboration between the Village, Town of Southold, the Audubon Society, and the Rotary could support Bay to Sound access and trail mapping.
- Riverhead Building Supply, Ink Spot and the Audubon Society will provide needed materials.
| | - The Clerk’s office has completed the review, disposal, organizing and archiving of records, paid for through a grant program.
| - Beginning in September, brush must be placed in paper bags for pick-up. Invasive species must be disposed of in the trash and not with brush pick-up. The village administrator has proposed reducing brush pick-up from a total of 18 (twice monthly during the collection months from April through early December) to approximately 8 pick-ups (once each collection-month) starting in 2027 with further reductions in 2028 to 4 pick-ups and then in 2029 to match the Southold Town schedule with two pick-ups (one in the fall and one in the spring). The Village Board will take this under consideration for further discussion in the August work session.
