Huntington Station, NY — The Health & Welfare Council of Long Island (HWCLI) has been recognized as a 2026 Long Island Top Workplace, by Long Island Press and Dan's Papers. HWCLI is among just 15 organizations, with fewer than 150 employees recognized in this year's regional awards.
In addition to this regional recognition, HWCLI has also been honored with a prestigious 2026 Nonprofit Industry Top Workplace, recognizing the organization's commitment to fostering a strong and supportive workplace culture within the nonprofit sector.
HWCLI has also received multiple Workplace Culture Excellence & Industry Awards from Bucketlist and TopWorkplaces.com, recognizing the organization for excellence across several key areas of workplace culture and employee experience.
HWCLI was recognized for excellence in the following areas:
- Appreciation
- Work-Life Flexibility
- Employee Well-Being
- Professional Development
- Compensation & Benefits
- Leadership
- Purpose & Values
Together, these recognitions reflect the lived experiences and perspectives of HWCLI employees and highlight a workplace culture rooted in collaboration, mission-driven work, professional growth, and employee engagement.
“We are incredibly proud of this recognition, but even more proud of what it represents,” said HWCLI President and CEO Vanessa Baird-Streeter. “This award reflects the voices of our team. It speaks to the commitment, care, and dedication our staff bring to their work every day in service of Long Island’s communities. None of this would be possible without them.”
For HWCLI employees, that sense of purpose is reflected in the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals and families across Long Island.
“The kind of work tends to stick with people. It’s a direct line to seeing real impact in people’s lives. We help bridge our community with necessary services needed to maintain a healthy and living lifestyle on Long Island,” shared an HWCLI team member.
Another staff member highlighted the value of bringing together people with different backgrounds and experiences around a shared mission. “The number one motivating factor working at HWCLI is the diverse staff with a variety of backgrounds all coming together to achieve one goal, and that is to help people.”
The Top Workplaces program, now in its 19th year, is administered by Energage, a purpose-driven organization that develops solutions to build and brand Top Workplaces. The program surveys employees across the country and recognizes organizations that prioritize people-first workplace practices. Top Workplaces awards are based on feedback from a research-backed employee engagement survey. Details about how Health and Welfare Council of Long Island builds a great workplace culture are available on Top Workplaces.
“Earning a Top Workplaces award is a badge of honor for companies, especially because it comes authentically from their employees,” said Eric Rubino, Energage CEO. “That's something to be proud of. In today's market, leaders must ensure they’re allowing employees to have a voice and be heard. That's paramount. Top Workplaces do this, and it pays dividends.”
HWCLI extends its sincere appreciation to its staff for their feedback, and ongoing commitment to strengthening workplace culture and advancing the organization’s mission.
