NCC raises nearly $1000

to support workforce training

New Century Careers is pleased to have been selected to participate in The Pittsburgh Foundation’s “Critical Needs” campaign on August 1. NCC raised nearly $1,000. Thanks to all of the donors who helped continue and sustain NCC's MANUFACTURING 2000 (M2K) tuition-free machinist pre-apprenticeship program.

NCC awarded United Way Impact Grant

The United Way of Southwestern Pennsylvania recently announced that New Century Careers is one of the awardees of its 2023-2024 Impact Grants. This grant will go toward supporting the operations of the MANUFACTURING 2000 (M2K) program at Pittsburgh and Latrobe's Eastern Westmoreland Career Technology Center locations. "We are honored to have been selected for this support," says Neil Ashbaugh, president/CEO of New Century Careers. "As we all read in the headlines, the needs of a highly-skilled workforce meeting the demands of area manufacturers will continue to be a focus for the regional economy. With this support, our team will be able to engage, train, and place more persons looking to gain economic mobility as well as enjoying a successful career that is personally gratifying."

Pre-Apprenticeship Spotlight

"At the end of the day, you feel like you've accomplished something"

Rohan C. was introduced to New Century Careers through a career counselor at Jewish Family and Children’s Services (JFCS). He has always loved putting things together and making things but didn’t know how to apply that to a career. His counselor recommended the M2K program to start his training in machining.

Throughout his time here, he has enjoyed learning from the instructors. While the hardest part of training is having to re-do projects if there are errors, he credits Paul and Odell for their extensive knowledge and industry experience. “They are very experienced and I feel like I’ve been learning a lot,” says Rohan. “Each teacher has different techniques and I get to absorb as much knowledge as possible.” Rohan especially enjoys finishing projects. “At the end of the day, you feel like you’ve accomplished something.” His advice to future pre-apprentices? “Be dedicated, consistent, listen, and practice. That’s all it takes.”

Once he completes M2K, Rohan plans on entering the machining workforce. His main goal is to progress through the field and become a journeyman.
