The Massachusetts House of Representatives passed H.5595, An Act prioritizing patient access to care. Now it moves to the Senate for a vote this week. Please contact your State Senator today and urge them to vote YES on An Act prioritizing patient access to care when it comes up for a floor vote.
An Act prioritizing patient access to care offers an important update to the statute governing abortion care later in pregnancy, often needed because of the discovery of critical fetal problems or threats to a mother’s life in a wanted pregnancy, to allow this care based on the professional judgment of physicians.
Despite tremendous progress to expand access to abortion later in pregnancy in recent sessions, statutory barriers still remain, forcing dozens of patients every year to be denied access to abortion care in Massachusetts after 24 weeks of pregnancy. Forcing patients to travel out of state for this care is not only costly, but increasingly dangerous in a post-Roe world.
