Gratien Meyer Crémant de Loire Brut Rose, Francé, $18.99

23-year-old Alfred Gratien founded the House in 1864 in Saumur after acquiring a vineyard and 5km of Tufa cellars facing the Loire River. The winery’s story begins with the simple meeting of Gratien, the visionary, and Jean-Albert Meyer, a young Alsatian winemaker, who became a full partner in 1885 after Alfred’s death.

Bernier Chardonnay, France, $14.99

In 1978, the Couillaud family purchased the Chateau de la Ragotiere, which is the former home of a noble family who settled there in the 14th century. Part of the castle moat, retained from the middle ages, along with antique gates and the ancient chapel have been restored and the chapel now serves as an intimate tasting room.

Caparzo Toscana Sangiovese, Italy, $13.99

The Caparzo winery was formed at the dawning of Brunello di Montalcino in the 19th C. Origins of the name ‘Caparzo’ are unconfirmed – some believe it derives from the Latin, ‘Caput Arsum’, meaning “a place touched by the sun.” A ruined farm and vineyard estate, Caparzo was purchased in the 1960s by a group of friends who renovated and replanted.

Chateau Chapelle d’Alienor Bordeaux Superieur, France, $22.99

In 2001, Aliénor and Alexandre de Malet Roquefort fell under the charm of a lovely chapel situated on the slopes of a beautiful vineyard not far from Saint-Émilion. The wines are crafted by the technical teams of Château La Gaffelière.Bordeaux Supérieur wines come from grapes sourced throughout the Bordeaux wine region but are generally considered of higher quality.
