Wildlife Interns Explore Conservation, Technology, and Career Pathways
Did you know that The Wildlife Clinic of Rhode Island is now accepting applications for paid internships for Fall 2026 and January through May 2027?
These opportunities are available for eligible students from Aquidneck Island, with limited unpaid placements available for students from other parts of Rhode Island. Paid opportunities for January through May 2027 are also available through Governor’s Workforce Board and van Beuren-supported programs.
Current Wildlife Clinic interns recently had the opportunity to learn from several community partners about the careers, technologies, and agencies involved in protecting wildlife.
Representatives from the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management Wildlife Division shared information about the state’s work with Rhode Island’s black bear population, including research, monitoring, coexistence, and ways to reduce human-wildlife conflicts.
Interns also learned from Compass Cartographic about Geographic Information Systems, or GIS, and how mapping technology can support wildlife research, conservation planning, and environmental decision-making.
The Governor’s Workforce Board also visited the clinic to meet with interns, hear about their experiences, and discuss career pathways in wildlife rehabilitation, veterinary medicine, conservation, research, and the life sciences.
Read more below for internship details and application information.
