Growing up in small-town Walworth, NY, there was no sitting around watching TV for Tim Weller, CFP®, and his eight siblings. Instead, fresh-air adventures and library books filled the family’s days, a habit encouraged by Tim’s mother, Louise, who instilled in her children a love of learning. After exhausting the library’s collection, Tim’s appetite for information led him to newspapers, where he’d study sports stats and economic data.
Then came the mutual fund prospectuses, which 12-year-old Tim read cover to cover.
Not long after, Tim started investing the money he earned from his first jobs: picking potatoes, mowing lawns, painting houses, and working as a short-order cook, among others. “My parents always fostered an environment for me to be curious and follow whatever path I chose.”
And while Tim admits that he spent some of his early years dreaming about reinventing himself as a California surfer, he has zero regrets about the life he launched in his hometown as an entrepreneurial 23-year-old with a few years as a paraplanner under his belt.
Decades later, Weller Financial Group has grown entirely through word-of-mouth referrals, allowing Tim to guide generations of families he, his siblings, and his parents have known, well, forever. As an independent advisor, he’s found a deep sense of purpose helping local families build stability and dreams—a reflection of the values he was raised with.
Those same values are inspiring Tim’s next chapter: Eleven By Louise, a Weller family nonprofit focused on supporting those in need of food, clothing, and emergency assistance.
The organization—staffed and supported by Weller siblings, spouses, nieces, nephews, and longtime family friends—reflects the example Tim’s mother set throughout his childhood. "Growing up, there was never any leftover food in the house. My mom made some of our clothes by hand," he says. "At the same time, she started a Christmas sharing program at church to make sure no one in our community went without for the holidays."
What began as one woman’s effort to help others grew into a community tradition supporting hundreds of local families—and now lives on through Eleven By Louise.
Now, Tim’s team of six associate advisors—including three of his sisters, Chris, Jen, and Julie—is stepping into greater leadership roles, part of a succession plan years in the making. With that transition underway, Tim is looking forward to focusing more time on philanthropy.
