Construction Updates

Retaining Wall Construction
Crews continue construction of one of the retaining walls along eastbound Katella Avenue near the Coyote Creek Channel. Work includes installation of reinforcing steel and formwork for the retaining wall, backfilling, grading, and preparation for the adjacent concrete barrier, including excavation and rebar installation. The retaining wall is anticipated to be completed by the end of the week.

Eastbound and Westbound Katella Avenue

The eastbound sidewalk will remain closed. To access the westbound sidewalk, pedestrians should cross at Walnut Street.

This work may be loud. The schedule is subject to change due to weather or unforeseen operational issues.

Rainy Weather Safety Reminder

With wet weather in the forecast, please use extra caution around construction zones. Rain can create slippery surfaces, reduce visibility, and make roadways unpredictable.

Here's how you can keep everyone safe:

  • Slow down and allow extra space between vehicles.
  • Avoid driving through flooded areas or around closed lanes.
  • Watch for construction crews and equipment, which may be adjusting operations due to weather.
  • Stay alert for changing traffic patterns or signage near work zones.

Upcoming Closures

The following closures may take place nightly from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m., Monday, Nov. 2 through Friday, Nov. 6 (into Saturday morning):

  • Outside lanes on eastbound and westbound Katella Avenue/Willow Street, at least one lane will be open to traffic at all times.

Closures and Detours Map

An interactive "Closures and Detours Map" is updated regularly highlighting major activities and associated closures and detours. We encourage users to bookmark the link for quick access to real-time construction information. Click on the image to be redirected.

About the Project

The Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA), in cooperation with Caltrans, is improving the local interchange at Interstate 605 (I-605) and Katella Avenue. The project will enhance safety and traffic flow by modifying existing on- and off-ramps, making improvements on Katella Avenue, and improving bicycle and pedestrian facilities.
