Q&A with Lynda Halligan
This week we get to know Lynda Halligan, a 25-year veteran of the broadcasting, entertainment and communications industry who just reinstated her OCPRSA membership (welcome back, Lynda!). A Southern California native, Lynda’s career has ranged from serving as a news anchor and reporter to voiceover artist and radio disc jockey—and so much more. Read on to learn more about Lynda!
Q: Lynda, please tell us about you! Your job, etc.?
A: I’m a longtime TV news anchor, host, reporter, writer and producer who made the switch to public relations when I got married and moved back to Orange County. I’m a Los Angeles native who received my Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in social ecology from UC Irvine and my Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in screenwriting from Cal State Fullerton in 2021. I spend almost all my free time writing screenplays these days! If you’d like to learn more about my background, go to

Q: What brought you to the OCPRSA?
A: Initially, Michael Suydam (now of 21st Century Communications Strategies) mentioned OCPRSA to me when I was considering a transition from television news to public relations. I often checked the job board way back then but didn’t actually join until 2017 when I became the Director of Communications and Public Affairs for the Association of Orange County Deputy Sheriffs. I am now a creative consultant for AOCDS and available to take on additional clients. I just reinstated my OCPRSA membership. Nice to meet y’all!
Q: What’s your favorite piece of advice for PR professionals?
A: When you reach out to journalists to try to get a placement, don’t be annoying and in their face. Be real and honest. They may turn you down that one time, but you’ll start to earn their trust and respect, which could lead to multiple placements and a long-lasting, solid contact down the road.
