Intergenerational Month Recap
|
|
In September, ONEgeneration’s Intergenerational Daycare Center celebrated Intergenerational Month with some extra special activities between our preschoolers and their senior “neighbors”. Activities included a performance from “The Amazing Dave”, who conducted a Magic and Juggling Show, a Pancake Breakfast, a Fall Picnic in the soccer field complete with floating apples and snow cones, reading books and sharing cookies, learning about high holy days traditions like sharing apples and honey for the New Year and sounding the shofar, a musical horn used to mark the end of the day of fasting on Yom Kippur.

|
Thank you to LA Times Columnist Steve Lopez for his timely article "Work, school, caregiving. Multiple generations honor a family member while going about their lives" published during Intergenerational Month. We are so grateful that Mr. Lopez highlighted the work of ONEgeneration in his work about a family caring for their loved one.

|
ONEgeneration is so grateful to be one of eight Southern California nonprofits awarded grants from the Eisner Foundation in support of our Intergenerational Programs. We look forward to partnering with The Foundation to enhance the lives of older adults and younger generations through shared programs and activities.

Thank you to all of our sponsors and vehicles that came out to make this a special day for all. We appreciate the hundreds of families and community members that came out see all of the trucks and utility vehicles as well as painting the truck from Galpin Ford in the Kids Zone. There was free crafts and face painting for children to enjoy. A few times a day our dump truck helped to release hundreds of beach balls for children to take home!
As our first Touch A Truck ONEgeneration was overwhelmed at the community attendance and positive response to this event, and we look forward to seeing you all next year in the Fall of 2024!

OY! YOU HOYT!
a poem by Norman Molesko
One person flippantly comments, as a comic,
“So you hoyt. So you are having discomfort?
Tell some funny jokes and you will feel better.”
Another says with psychological overtones,
“The discomfort will go away. It’s only mental.
Just pay attention to this advice.
Change your attitude! Relax! Take it easy!”
And a third person relates, as a magician,
”Just forget you are having discomfort.
You know you are imagining it.
Ab-bra-ca-da-bra! Your discomfort is no more.”
An elderly man, more philosophical, advises,
“So, what’s new? You are getting older,
not a kid anymore. What to do? So it hurts.
I hurt too. Get used to it.”
A really helpful, supportive person says, “Oy! You hoyt?
Consider your doctor’s recommendations.
Connect with your experience and your feelings.
Then choose the best possible option available to you.”
