Submit to JCMS!

Looking to publish? We want to read your work!

Help us shape the future of media studies: submit your work to JCMS now.

Currently, JCMS is operating on the shortest possible timeline from final manuscript to publication, a turnaround of approximately 9 months for the print edition and 6 months for the Fifth Issue, a Diamond Open Access publication. Operating so quickly is exciting, but requires a robust pipeline of submissions and peer review.

JCMS is the scholarly publication of the Society for Cinema and Media Studies, publishing a range of rigorous and cutting-edge scholarship in humanistic media studies. It is the second-oldest US-based journal dedicated to the study of film and is routinely ranked as one of the top journals in film and media studies.

We publish critical inquiry into the global, national, and local circulation of a wide variety of media. We seek to promote a range of approaches to film and media studies and attendant fields, including (but not limited to) digital media, sound studies, visual culture, video game studies, fan studies, and avant-garde and experimental film and media practices.

Thus, we would like to solicit work from SCMS members and invite any interested members to volunteer as reviewers by contacting liz@jcmsjournal.org. To learn more about how to submit, what JCMS looks for in its review process, and other ways to get involved, please visit the JCMS Editorial Wiki.

We look forward to reading your submissions,

Elizabeth Ellcessor and Bo Ruberg

Editors, Journal of Cinema and Media Studies

Accessing JCMS

Some links on jcmsjournal.org and in our quarterly emails will take you to paywalled content on Project Muse’s website. SCMS members and other JCMS subscribers have digital access to JCMS (from 1999 to the current issue). To access JCMS using the SCMS proxy, click here. You will be asked to log in using your cmstudies.org credentials. Once you log in, simply click on the link that reads “Click Here for Access.” Once you do that, you’ll be taken to the JCMS homepage on Project Muse. And, more to the point, you’ll be logged into a proxy which will give you access to JCMS on Project Muse: all the links on our website and in our email should work as normal.

If you have access to JCMS on Project Muse through an institutional proxy (e.g., through your college or university library), then you can use that instead if you prefer. Simply log in through your library (or other institutional portal) as you normally would. (You may well be asked to log in through your institution when you first click on a link on our website or in our emails.) If your browser is set up to use your institution’s proxy automatically, and your institution does not have access to JCMS, you may need to use a different browser, reconfigure your proxy settings, or use “private” browsing to access JCMS through the SCMS proxy.
