CJI Data Access Changes: FBI Meeting Debrief
A few weeks back, Ridge Support sent representatives to attend a PA State Police (PSP)/FBI seminar in which they previewed a few upcoming requirements that will hit anyone handling Criminal Justice Information (CJI) data, so it will particularly impact police departments.
Perhaps the largest change that many PDs will need to make in regards to these challenges will be the implementation of MFA to access any device that is used to access the CJI data. That means there will need to be an MFA method setup that will occur during the process to login to any laptop, desktop, tablet, etc. that can gain access to the CJI data.
Since many departments operate by using only a password to login to these local devices, this will likely be the most noticeable change that will have to take place in order to meet the requirements for future inspections.
Another aspect that may need to be worked on for some departments is the development or updating of an Incident Response Plan (IRP). The IRP would be a document that outlines roles and responsibilities in the event of a security incident. This would also include the steps to take throughout the stages of such an event.
With both of these items, Ridge Support is happy to discuss solutions and how to implement them within your department.
These items are in policies that are set to become active as of October 2024. We are in communication with the PSP to get more detail on the extent of the requirements, as well.
Please let us know should you have any questions.
Thanks,
The Ridge Support Technologies Team
