Bak-ta-Bak Takes the Stage!
The Whitman Summer Concerts have been a blast of fun. With a variety of performing artists lined up, locals have had the opportunity to relax on chairs and blankets to enjoy the show amongst family and friends under blue skies. For Thursday’s July 6 concert at Whitman Town Park, the Bak-ta-Bak Band performed for the community with a range of country, rock, and oldies on live drums and guitars. Their music, in addition to the beautiful nature around them, gave way for a lovely show that captured the audience and their applause. As always, there was lemonade and food available for purchase to have during the concert.

The craze to decorate so-called 'hot rods' with extra gadgets has even spread to soap boxes, among the classiest being those of Lee F. Welch, 12, of 778 Washington Street, and George A. Cormier, 12, of 671 Washington Street, both of Whitman.
Lee is being pushed by John F. Bradshaw, 824 Washington Street, Whitman; July 8, 1958.

Climate Can-Do: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle!
Everything we throw away contributes to polluting the air we breathe and the water we drink! We can minimize the amount of pollution by using a simple method: Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle!
Reduce Is first. It's the most important! To reduce the waste we produce, we reduce the number of products we purchase. Not only will being mindful of your purchases reduce the amount of waste on our planet, but it will also save you a a lot of money.
Reuse: Another way to help our environment is reusing the items and products that we might have thrown away unconsciously. Instead of tossing that shirt you no longer wear, donate it to someone who would wear it. Instead of purchasing a case of plastic water bottles, invest in a reusable water bottle. They are environment friendly and will keep your beverage cold.
Recycle: Recycling stops our trash from wrecking the environment. You would be surprised by the number of things that can be recycled, from mattresses to batteries; metal scraps to clothing and textiles. The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection provides a search bar on their website where you can type the name of a waste item and it will tell you how to recycle or dispose of it.
The National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences explains: "Waste, and how we choose to handle it, affects our world's environment. The environment is everything around you including the air, water, land, plants, and man-made things. The waste we create has to be carefully controlled to be sure that it does not harm your environment and your health." The best way we can help protect our environment and health is to reduce, reuse, and recycle!

Firefighter Graduation
Friday, June 16th, Joseph (Joe) Lasko of the Whitman Fire Department graduated from the Massachusetts Fire Academy. Lasko was part of a group of 24 firefighters that will go on work for local communities around Whitman, such as Bridgewater and Barnstable, and big cities like Framingham. The Massachusetts fire program trains firefighters on safety, how to deal with dangerous situations effectively, and basic life support.
Chief Timothy Clancy of the Whitman Fire Department said, “On behalf of the entire department, I want to congratulate Firefighter Lasko on this achievement; I wish him luck as he begins his career serving the Town of Whitman."
Congratulations, Joseph Lasko, and see you around town!

Family.
"Happiness is having a large, loving, caring, close-knit family in another city." ~ George Burns
"What can you do to promote world peace? Go home and love your family." ~ Mother Teresa
"In truth a family is what you make it. It is made strong, not by number of heads counted at the dinner table, but by the rituals you help family members create, by the memories you share, by the commitment of time, caring, and love you show to one another, and by the hopes for the future you have as individuals and as a unit."
~ Marge Kennedy
"There's only one thing more precious than our time and that's what we spend it on."
~Leo Christopher
|
The author I love to quote when celebrating families is Erma Bombeck, my mother used to read her aloud on long car rides:
“The family. We were a strange little band of characters trudging through life sharing diseases and toothpaste, coveting one another's desserts, hiding shampoo, borrowing money, locking each other out of our rooms, inflicting pain and kissing to heal it in the same instant, loving, laughing, defending, and trying to figure out the common thread that bound us all together.”
Some things change, and some things stay exactly the same. Have a great week, all : )
~ Jacquie
