Eric Jay Dolin, author of Leviathan: The History of Whaling in America, joins us for a meet-and-greet in celebration of his latest book, Left for Dead: Shipwreck, Treachery, and Survival at the Edge of the World. No need to RSVP, just come by anytime between 2:00–4:00pm to say hi!
The true story of five castaways abandoned on the Falkland Islands during the War of 1812—a tale of treachery, shipwreck, isolation, and the desperate struggle for survival.
A tale of intriguing complexity, with surprising twists and turns throughout—involving greed, lying, bullying, a hostile takeover, stellar leadership, ingenuity, severe privation, endurance, banishment, the great value of a dog, the birth of a baby, a perilous thousand-mile open-ocean journey in a seventeen-foot boat, an improbable rescue mission, and legal battles over a dubious and disgraceful wartime prize.

Jennifer Tosti-Kharas, author of Organizational Behavior, joins us to discuss her new book, Is Your Work Worth It?. Jennifer will be in conversation with Jamie Ladge, author of Maternal Optimism.
What is work that’s worth doing in a life worth living? A revealing exploration of the questions we ask and the stories we tell about our work.
According to recent studies, barely a third of American workers feel “engaged” at work, and for many people around the world, happiness is lowest when earning power is highest. After a global pandemic that changed why, how, and what people do for a living, many workers find themselves wondering what makes their daily routine worthwhile.
In Is Your Work Worth It?, two professors—a philosopher and organizational psychologist—investigate the purpose of work and its value in our lives.

Beatriz Williams, bestselling author of The Summer Wives, joins us to discuss her new release, Husbands & Lovers.
Two women—separated by decades and continents, and united by an exotic family heirloom—reclaim secrets and lost loves in this sweeping novel from the New York Times bestselling author of The Summer Wives. Timeless and bittersweet, Husbands & Lovers draws readers on an unforgettable journey of heartbreak and redemption, from the revolutionary fires of midcentury Egypt to the moneyed beaches of contemporary New England. Acclaimed author Beatriz Williams has written a poignant and beautifully voiced novel of deeply human characters entangled by morally complex issues—of privilege, class, and the female experience—inside worlds brought shimmeringly to life.
"[A] captivating novel of love and love lost . . . With well-drawn characters and sweeping drama, Williams’ latest is a gripping journey as secrets and hidden desires are exposed." –Booklist

Caroline recommends: Annie Bot by Sierra Greer
Klara and the Sun meets Lolita in this engrossing debut that explores the emotional complexities of an AI “cuddle bot”. As Annie increases her knowledge of humans, she soon develops the desire for connection and freedom. Raising questions of bodily and emotional autonomy, I began to shockingly favor Annie Bot over her human counterpart.

Jerry recommends: Mona of the Manor by Armistead Maupin
The 10th book in the Tales of the City series does not disappoint and keeps the TOOC spirit alive and well. This is the first book set outside of San Francisco, specifically in a rural English countryside manor. While Mona was a secondary character in prior books, she shines in this funny, topical and political tale of people discovering themselves. There are plot twists and turns galore as this book continues the fantastic themes of the series now in a contemporary setting.

Kali recommends: Flyboy by Kasey LeBlanc
During the day, Asher is a closeted trans boy forced by his hyper-religious grandparents to spend his senior year at a strict catholic school. But while asleep, Asher can be his true self as he performs as part of a magical circus joined by other people in need of an escape. But when both his dream and waking worlds start falling apart, he must decide whether he has the strength to tell the world who he is. LeBlanc blends fantasy, queer romance, and the harsh reality that trans people face into a magical tale of self-discovery that will leave you full of hope. A wonderful book to read during Pride Month and beyond!
