MVA Introduces New Symbol on Driver's Licenses and ID Cards For Marylander's With Hidden Disabilities
Maryland residents can now choose to add a butterfly symbol to their driver's license or ID card to indicate a hidden disability, such as autism or an intellectual or developmental disability. The free, voluntary designation—known as Eric's ID Law—is intended to help first responders and others recognize when someone may need additional communication support or accommodations during routine interactions. No medical documentation is required, and residents can add or remove the symbol through their myMVA account, at self-service kiosks, or by visiting any MVA branch.
