  • What inspired you to work in recreation, and what do you love most about it? I started working in recreation because of my background in health and wellness. Recreational activities set the foundation for health and well-being as children. It instills that fitness is fun. That is what I love about recreation, you get to play, which is vital to our health and well-being. That is important, even as an adult.
  • If you could describe your vision for our community’s recreation programs in three words, what would they be? Encouraging, Uplifting, Informative
  • What’s one activity or event you’re excited to introduce that everyone in the community can enjoy? There are so many activities that I want to do, and I am excited to hear from the community about what they want. I would love to host a beginners paddleboard yoga class series and some running/walking/hiking groups. There are so many possibilities!

Beat the Winter Blues!

Shorter days and colder weather can leave us feeling sluggish or even down. For some, it’s the winter blues, while others may experience seasonal affective disorder (SAD)—a type of depression linked to seasonal changes.

Boost your mood this winter with these simple tips:

Get outside – A daily walk provides fresh air, movement, and a change of scenery.

Up your vitamin D – Consult a doctor about diet and supplements.

Plan fun activities – Stick to plans to avoid isolating yourself.

Stay social – Time with friends and family lifts your spirits.

Keep moving – Even light activity can boost energy and mood.

Lean on your support system – Let loved ones know how you’re feeling so they can check in.

Small changes can make a big difference—stay active, stay connected, and keep your spirits up this season!

Did you know that Botetourt County is a proud partner of the Regional Center for Animal Care & Protection? The amazing humans that work at the RCACP have the weighty goal of providing temporary shelter for stray, abandoned, and surrendered animals to return them to their owners or find them permanent, suitable new homes. Each month we will be teaming up with RCACP to share one of their adoptable furry friends.

Meet Jack and Roscoe

Jack and Roscoe are 9-month-old, twin brothers. We suspect them to be Miniature Pincher hound mixes, and currently they weigh about 20lbs. They are very curious boys! A little shy at first but will quickly warm up to you- especially when treats are involved. Their confidence soars when they are together! While they do love each other very much, they can also be adopted separately. Like all available pets at RCACP, these guys have been neutered, are up to date on their vaccines, microchipped, and current on flea/tick/heartworm prevention.
