100 Days Brighter!
Many of our Elementary Schools celebrated their 100th day of learning with a fun day of dress up and counting activities.
The 100th day of school is not only a time for fun, but also a time to reflect on how much our students have grown since the beginning of the year. It’s amazing to see how much their reading, writing, math skills, and social development have blossomed. Each day, they build on what they’ve learned and grow in confidence as they approach new challenges.
For many students, the 100th day also marks the beginning of an exciting shift in their academic journey. They are more independent, more curious, and ready to take on even bigger projects as the school year continues. Parents, your support at home has been invaluable in helping them reach this point, and we’re so grateful for the partnership we share in your child’s education.
From mastering new skills to building friendships, the first 100 days have been filled with excitement and achievement.

NOTICE
Updated Bell Schedule
At our board meeting on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, the following plan was approved to make-up the day from our recent snow event.
As a reminder, we missed four days that week as Monday was a holiday. We had two emergency days built into the second semester, and we changed the March 17, 2025, PD day to a school day for students. That leaves us with one day to recover which we will do using the schedule below:
- We will begin Wednesday, February 12, 2025, adding 10 minutes to the school day through Friday, April 11, 2025.
- Schools will begin the day 5 minutes earlier than their current start time and end five minutes later than their current end time.
- We will revert back to our normal schedule Monday, April 14, 2025.
See UPDATED Bell Time Schedule
We will revert back to our regular schedule Monday, April 14, 2025.

New Law Affecting our 3rd Grade Students
Beginning in the 2024-2025 academic year, a new Louisiana law took effect requiring third-grade students who are significantly underperforming in reading to repeat the grade. This legislation aims to address literacy challenges by ensuring students have foundational reading skills before advancing to fourth grade.
| |
|
If you have a child in grades kindergarten - 3, be on the lookout for a report on your child's DIBLES Assessment scores for the middle of the school year to be sent home. The DIBELS assessment measures the reading fluency of each student individually, which helps parents and educators identify where the child needs help the most. By detecting the risks and monitoring development, we can work together with the child to ensure that he or she is on track to reading proficiently by the end of 3rd grade. If you do not receive this report, please reach out to your child's teacher.
Third grade students who are reading "well below level" as tested by the end-of-the-year DIBELS assessment in April will face retainment and must repeat third grade the following school year if unable to increase their DIBELS scores by June.
Now is the time to intervene with your child's reading abilities.
Reach out to your child's teacher for help and support.
| |
Writing and Reading Go Hand-in-Hand
Reading and writing at home strengthens a child's literacy skills, including vocabulary and comprehension. It lays a foundation for success in school and helps children excel in subjects across the curriculum.
| |
|
Journal
Provide your child with a decorative notebook and pen, and encourage them to share a few sentences about their day. They can add stickers to the pages, or doodle around the margins.
Find fun ways to get your child to put their thoughts into writing.

Make Simple Moments an Opportunity for Learning
Sorting, counting, graphing, and analyzing the data is a mathematical practice that is packed with important concepts.
AT HOME ACTIVITY
Valentines heart candy can be used for a fun math activity.
- Open the box of candy and empty out the hearts on to a plate.
- Have your child sort the hearts by color.
- Stack each color group into a tall, straight line (to resemble a bar graph).
- See which line is tallest. Which line is shortest?
Ask questions such as
- How many green hearts are there?
- Which color has the most hearts?
- Which color has the fewest hearts?
- How many more pink hearts are there than purple hearts?

Honesty Saves Everyone's Time
Have you ever thought about how being honest can actually save time? It's true! Telling the truth is not just the right thing to do, but also a real time-saver for everyone.
When we're honest, we are able to get straight to the point without wasting time making up stories or trying to remember what we said before. It's simple and quick!
Think about it - when you tell a lie, you often have to tell more lies to cover up the first one. It's like trying to patch a leaky boat - you fix one hole, but then another pops up! Before you know it, you're spending all your time trying to keep your story straight. That can be exhausting!
Being honest means you don't need to waste time coming up with excuses or remembering which story you told to whom. You can use that saved time for fun stuff instead!
When people know you're always honest, they trust you. And trust is like a superpower in saving time!
- Teachers won't need to double-check your explanations.
- Friends won't have to wonder if you really mean what you say.
- Parents will be more likely to believe you without questioning.
All of this means fewer arguments, less time spent explaining yourself, and more time for the good stuff - like learning, playing, and hanging out with friends!
The Honesty Challenge
This month, we challenge you to be extra honest. Remember, honesty isn't just about not lying. It's about being open, genuine, and true to yourself and others. It's a superpower that makes our whole school community and home stronger and more efficient!
| |
|
Let's be Honest. Are you projecting your best self on Social Media?
Social media is fun, but it’s also about being yourself. The more honest and real you are, the more people will appreciate you and connect with you. Sometimes being honest means speaking up about something, but always try to be respectful and kind. You can be truthful without being rude or hurtful.
Honesty doesn’t mean sharing everything. You can still be honest about your thoughts or experiences without giving away personal details or over-sharing. Also, don't let social media pressure you to be someone you’re not. Share things that reflect who you really are, not who you think people want you to be.
Want to have a heart-to-heart conversation with your child about the use of social media? Read this article for guidance.
Parents are teachers too!

Food for Thought
We are halfway through February!
Let's see what our cafeterias are serving. Grades 5 - 12 have a daily sandwich line in addition to our regularly scheduled meals. High school students also have the option of an additional salad line on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Studies show that eating healthy meals can help to boost moods, enhance concentration, improve academic outcomes, reduce absences, and improve memory. When our bodies are happy and healthy, our minds are able to better focus and perform. | |
