Dear George,
Our companion parish of All Saints'-by-the-Sea, Montecito, sent an exploratory delegation to St. Paul's in October 2024, and our reciprocal delegation ventured to Santa Barbara/Montecito February 27 - March 6. A flight cancellation in Dallas on our return leg caused Padre's Woodward and Miguel to miss Ash Wednesday. Padre Frank fell quite ill, and Padre Antonio came up from Hildalgo to save the day!
Our assiduous and lovely hosts from All Saints' showed us their tremendous work with La Posada Village, an innovative response to resettling the homeless; with a tour of Olive Crest above the Reagan Ranch, a rehabilitation center for girls who have been subjected to sex-trafficking; and a visit to Transition Center (which began when I was a Curate at All Saints') a strong but quite different approach to addressing homelessness than that witnessed at La Posada Village.
The Rector of All Saints', the Reverend Channing Smith, ceded his pulpit to Padre Miguel Rangél, who preached fine sermons at their 8am and 10am Eucharists.
All Saints'-by-the-Sea is serving as our U.S. base for the establishment of our 501c3, with their Peter Sullivan and our Jonathan Brown in full collaboration. We anticipate a visitation from ASBTS in October of 2025. A link to both their parish website and to Sunday sermons at ASBTS are found below.
Extensive and wonderful meals, dinners and cocktail parties infused our visit, and so your delegation (Kathy Lapsys, Senior Warden; Andrea Spears, Junior Warden; Lynn Ramsey, Outreach; and Padre's Rangél and Woodward) return ready for Lenten fasting!
Designer Cliff Chally has completed our Lenten Paraments, which Kathy Lapsys will bring from Houston on her next trip...perhaps seeing them in use by the end of our Lenten Season!
Our Administrator, Claudia Rangél, met with the new Deputy Chief of the Transit Authority, who has extended our permission to park along Cardo from 9am to 2pm on Sundays only (omitting parade days), even in those areas normally designated as non-parking zones. THIS APPLIES ONLY TO THOSE WITH THE ST. PAUL'S STICKER ON DISPLAY IN THEIR FRONT WINDOW. We must not block the back entrance to the Rosewood. Please note the Transit Authority extended our parking liberty to 2pm on Sunday afternoons.
Should you have opportunity to share a treat with the transit personnel on patrol along Cardo, or to encourage them to make use of our lavatory facilities or to come to the kitchen for a glass of water, please do so.
Grace and peace,
GFW+
