Notes from Andy
Dear Church Family,
This coming Sunday is one of my favorite Sundays of the year, but it's also one of the hardest, because we will all face it in some way, shape, or form. It’s All Saints Sunday. We face this Sunday because we remember the saints who have gone before us.
We remember those saints who have passed from this life into true life, those saints who have heard, “Well done, my good and faithful servant.” They have received the reward for running so hard. We will all come to this point. The point of losing a loved one, a grandparent, a parent, a child, a spouse, a friend. Loss is a universal human experience. We all experience loss.
Even Jesus. He experienced the loss of John the Baptist. And then He experienced the loss of Lazarus. Even though Lazarus was raised, in the moment when Jesus experienced the reality of death, pain, and loss, Scripture tells us that, “Jesus wept.”
That is one reason this day means so much: we are reminded that in our grief we serve a God who is not distant from our pain, but who, through Jesus, experienced it and weeps as we weep. Jesus feels and knows our loss. For He has lost as well.
But remember our text for Sunday: “He will wipe away every tear from our eyes. Death may have a moment, but life has the victory.”
That’s why I love All Saints. I hope you’ll plan to worship with us in person, online, or on TV. See you Sunday!
