Chanco is going to have a fantastic weekend of fun and fellowship as we relive our camp and EYC days together. We will be singing camp songs, skits, lunchtime chants, bonfires with s’mores, an Evening Program, good friends, and 80s music! We will be using this time to either relax with options for some pool & waterfront time or be adventurous by paddle boarding, kayaking, and zip lining through Chanco.
Mark your calendars for May 20–22 to join the Diocese of Southern Virginia for a weekend of camp fun and fellowship as we explore what it means to be an Episcopalian and how we share our faith with others. Youth in grades 6 through 12 will have an opportunity to grow in their faith and in the community while enjoying different activities around camp. Fellowship is fun, spiritual, motivating, musical, and active…and it’s at Chanco!

Virginia Indians Yesterday and Today
May 21 @ 7:00 PM
Learn about the history of the Powhatan confederacy and other Virginia tribes that were not a part of the confederacy. Nellie and Kevin will discuss the trials of Virginia Indians in the early part of the 20th century including Walter Plecker's attempts to completely erase native culture from our society and will contrast his work to the advocacy of Frank Speck who tried to reunite the tribes of the confederacy. We will hear how attempts to "kill the Indian and save the man" extended into the 50s as Indian boarding schools and the education system were the next phase in racist practices. Our speakers will also address the state of Virginia Indians in modern times and react to the question, "Do you live in teepees?" (They don't).

Volunteers at Chanco are an invaluable part of our community. They work hard, serve as Chanco Ambassadors welcoming new friendships; and they give their time, talents, and treasure joyfully. Therefore, we must share our error of leaving out such a valued part of our Chanco Board in our recently mailed 2021 Annual Report. Please join us in saluting Ronda Toll for her six years of service to the Chanco on the Board of Directors. Ronda served the board as Secretary and on the Program, Property, and Chanco Campaign Executive Committees along with numerous other efforts. Ronda, We love you!!! - Nancy Beach and Talley Banazek
