School Maker & Community Art Projects

Blakely Elementary School has an annual MakerFaire. This year, in order to make sure that every student has the chance to participate, the main activities will take place during the school day. This shift allows all learners to engage fully in the maker experience, fostering creativity, problem solving and collaboration.

They will need lots of supplies, and we have been asked to get the word out. You can drop off between March 9-25 at the Blakely Elementary School office, 4704 Blakely Ave NE, during school hours, 8am-3pm. (Build day is March 26.)

Suggestions for what to bring:

  • Paper tubes - long, short, thin, thick
  • Boxes - from shoe to refrigerator size
  • Metal contraption bits
  • Tennis balls
  • Marbles
  • Ping pong balls
  • Wire hangers
  • Lids
  • Buckets
  • Yarn
  • Fabric
  • Tiles
  • Carpet patches

To quote the STEM teacher, "Pretty much anything they can build with, we'll take."

Bainbridge Arts & Crafts has a great exhibit planned for April Earth Month. In addition, artist Margie McDonald, who has been a transfer station artist in residence, will be running a community art project in Winslow one day in April.

You can help ready the wearable art project by saving up plastic lids, both screw-on and bendable, and dropping them off at BAC starting in March through early April.
