In our issue of Compliance Matters on June 24th, we wrote about how the City of Los Angeles City Council tentatively adopted a Hotel Worker Protection Ordinance mirroring those in the neighboring cities of West Hollywood, Santa Monica, and Long Beach. On June 28th, the City Council gave final approval and formally adopted the Ordinance, skipping the November ballot process.
The Ordinance will likely go into effect 30 days after it is published and signed by Mayor Eric Garcetti, as early as August 1, 2022. The City will be publishing a final version of the Ordinance with required compliance dates soon. Hotel employers in the City of Los Angeles should immediately begin familiarizing themselves with the requirements of the Ordinance in anticipation of a short compliance window.
The requirements of the Ordinance are detailed in our previous issue of Compliance Matters here.
Also, the latest draft of the Ordinance is available for reference here.
