Open Streets Los Altos - Update
As we enter the fourth week of Open Streets, we want to provide a brief reminder of recent program changes.

Open Streets Los Altos runs weekly, Thursday through Sunday until September 28. Specific sections of Main and State Streets will be closed to traffic to allow additional outdoor dining and displays, and social distancing. The closed streets are lined with various orange barricades to indicate the streets closures. The closed streets:

  • Main Street from 1st to 2nd
  • Main Street from 2nd to 3rd
  • State Street from 2nd to 3rd
  • 4th Street between Pompeii and Wells Fargo (Friday-Sunday)

We urge residents to walk, bike, or rideshare with a variety of open parking plazas, and designated bike rakes and drop-off/pick-up zones available. While we encourage biking, skateboarding, or scootering to Open Streets Los Altos, it is not allowed on the closed streets; Open Streets Los Altos is pedestrian-only.

Face coverings are required within Open Streets Los Altos , so don't forget your face covering at home! Those exempted from wearing a face covering:
  • When eating or drinking
  • Children under the age of six
  • Anyone who has trouble breathing, is incapacitated, or otherwise unable to remove a face covering without assistance
  • Anyone who has been advised by a medical professional not to wear a face covering

Please visit the City's Open Streets Los Altos webpage for more information and FAQs at www.losaltosca.gov/openstreetslosaltos .
COVID-19 Testing in the El Camino Healthcare District
We am pleased to announce that  El Camino Healthcare District (ECHD) is offering free COVID-19 testing for adults and children who live, work or go to school in the healthcare district .

COVID-19 testing is available  now  on our Mountain View campus. In the coming weeks, we’ll be bringing testing to additional sites in the District including Sunnyvale and Los Altos.

Things to know:

  • Tests must be scheduled by calling (650) 940-7022, Monday through Friday, 7:30 am to 4 pm.
  • The test involves a painless (not deep), easy and quick nasal swab sample that you take on yourself while being supervised by a laboratory professional.
  • A doctor’s order is not required.
  • This program is for healthy individuals who do not have symptoms of COVID-19 and but would like a test for their own peace of mind. It also helps us understand the level of asymptomatic COVID-19 infection in the community. (If a person has symptoms, they can call us and we will refer them to appropriate medical care)
  • The test determines if you are positive for COVID-19 on the day of the test. It does not determine if you had a COVID-19 infection in the past.
  • The visit and test will cost you nothing. If you don’t have insurance, the test is free. If you have health insurance, we can submit to your insurance—all public and private insurance is required by law to cover COVID-19 testing. You will not be billed and any out-of-pocket costs will be paid for by this District program.
  • Results are available in 2-3 days, through a confidential online portal or mailed to your home, whichever you prefer.
  • Positive results are given by telephone by a physician or nurse so next steps for quarantine and care can be discussed.

At the time of testing, people are asked to sign a form attesting that they  live, work or go to school  within District boundaries. Proof is not required. We don’t ask or care about immigration status.
To check if a home, work or school address is in the El Camino Healthcare District, see the SCC Registrar of Voters website  here  and then click on “Look Up Your Districts” in the left column.

COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT
Adobe Creek Sewer Main Replacement Project
The Engineering Services Department has advertised a Request for Proposals (RFP) for the design of the Adobe Creek Sewer Main Replacement Project. This project will replace, and for some segments realign, up to approximately 50 sewer main segments located along or near Adobe Creek. The sewer line segments identified for this project are located near the City’s border with the Town of Los Altos Hills, north of Manresa Avenue and south of Edith Avenue. Construction for this project will occur in phases over a period of multiple years. Design proposals are due to City Hall by 4:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 21, 2020.
Annual Street Slurry Project
The annual Street Slurry Seal project will begin construction Friday, July 10 to Wednesday, July 15. Roadway striping will be reapplied on the following week of July 20. For this year's Slurry project, selected streets will be treated with micro-surfacing, a mixture of asphalt emulsion and small aggregates to prolong remaining useful life of the roadway. Micro-surfacing may take three to four hours before it can be opened for traffic, please observe all notification, signage and personnel while work is in progress.
