A friend and I were recently talking about a particular situation and how it could have been handled better. She asked me, "Well, how would you have wanted it to be handled if it were you?" Boom. And there it was. The Golden Rule.
Do unto others as you would have others do unto you. What would the world be like if we had more Golden Rule followers?
If I was hurting, would I want a friend to reach out? Yes.
If someone had wronged me, would I want an apology? Yes.
In any situation, would I want to be shown respect and kindness? Yes.
If I was hungry, would I want someone to offer food? If I needed a job, would I want an opportunity? If there was something I needed to learn, would I want someone to teach me? Yes, yes and every day.
Hmmm. Could it really be true that everything I needed to know I learned in kindergarten? Maybe. Just maybe.

Destiny's Daughters of Promise is Preparing the Next Generation of Women to Thrive
|
|
Young women have always faced challenges growing up. Although we have made much progress in the last decade, it is still very important to continue to prepare girls to not only face these challenges, but to excel as adults in their careers and in their relationships. With the public school system already overburdened, leaders in our community have seen this need and some have assumed the responsibility of sharing their expertise, time, and talents to lead this new generation.
Destiny’s Daughters of Promise is a premiere leadership organization preparing teen girls to thrive in their purpose, lead with confidence, and excel in the workforce. Led by Executive Director Lorraine Thomas, the Cobb-based nonprofit partners with local schools, corporations, churches, foundations, and local .... Read More

Community foundations: Unparalleled resources for local giving with major impact
|
|
As economic times get tough, more and more people are asking how they can make the biggest difference right in their own backyard. Indeed, local giving is a topic that has even made its way into the opinions of the mainstream media, causing many charitably-inclined people to pay more attention to the impact their dollars are having on the causes they love.
Sometimes the greatest needs really are right here at home. As donors explore charitable giving opportunities and receive requests for funding from charities near and far, it can be helpful to read first-hand accounts of why other philanthropists have been so inspired by uncovering local needs that they simply were not aware of.

We have all seen the devastating effects of the earthquakes in Turkey. The magnitude of the human tragedy is hard to comprehend. According to Reuters, the death toll has climbed above 8,500 with more than 11,000 currently homeless. International aid is critical to get help to the affected area. Cobb Community Foundation works diligently to understand the needs in Cobb County, including times when the need arises for reliable information on how donors in our community can offer assistance in times of international crisis.
We recommend visiting Charity Navigator at this link to see which agencies are serving there and getting urgent resources to the victims of the earthquakes in Turkey.
