WELCOME BACK, TIGERS!

FIRST DAY FOR STUDENTS—TUESDAY, AUGUST 18, 2026

Welcome to the NAI community!  Whether you're joining us for the first time or returning for your second year, NAI marks an important step in your educational journey as a North Allegheny Tiger, and we’re honored to be a part of it.

At NAI, you’ll find a team of educators and staff who are passionate about creating a school environment where every student feels supported, challenged, and empowered to grow. Each day, we commit to creating a safe, predictable environment for students, elevating and encouraging student voice and choice, and working to build strong, meaningful relationships in an effort to ensure every student has at least one trusted and informed adult they can go to for support.  Helping every student feel connected, supported, and valued within our school community is a top priority for us.

We are committed to providing rigorous learning experiences that encourage students to think critically, collaborate with others, and communicate effectively. These important skills and many more will be intentionally taught and reinforced through authentic learning opportunities both in the classroom and throughout students’ experiences at NAI.

On behalf of everyone at NAI, we’re looking forward to this educational partnership.

Go Tigers!

STUDENT HOMEROOMS & SCHEDULES

Student homeroom assignments and schedules will be available in PowerSchool on Thursday, August 6, 2026, by approximately 6 PM. You can view instructions for accessing PowerSchool, student homeroom assignments, schedules, and transportation details online.

SCHEDULING CONFLICTS OR CLASS CHANGES

Students should carefully review their schedules. If a mistake was made (i.e., 9th graders have two Social Studies classes in the same semester, missing an English class, etc.), a Schedule Change Request form will be made available once schedules are released. All schedule change requests must go through this process.

Please note: As classes are changed, they may rearrange other classes.

Counselors will complete requests as they are received. Please refer to the Program of Studies (page 16) for appropriate reasons for schedule change requests. Only requests for these identified reasons will be honored.

A.W. BEATTIE STUDENTS & FAMILIES

The first day at A.W. Beattie Career Center is Wednesday, August 25, 2026.

Students attending Beattie are expected to arrive at NAI/NASH at the regular time for first period and remain there until the normal dismissal time at 11:55 AM. Students can then get picked up by a parent/guardian or remain in the school library until the regular dismissal time. This will be the case from August 18-24, 2026.

Students who attend Beattie are required to follow the school calendar for each respective school. On days NASD is in session while Beattie is not, students are expected to arrive at NAI/NASH at the regular time for first period and remain there until the normal dismissal time at 11:55 a.m. Students can then get picked up by a parent/guardian (or drive home from NASH) or remain in the school library until the regular dismissal time. On days when Beattie is in session and NASD is not, students are expected to attend Beattie classes. Transportation is provided from NAI/NASH to Beattie at 11:55 a.m. on those days and to students’ bus stops at the end of the day.

Please contact Dr. Morey (jmorey@northallegheny.org) with questions.

BELL SCHEDULES

Here are the NAI Bell Schedules (PDF) for your reference.

NASD 9-12 HANDBOOK

The NASD 9-12 Student/Parent Handbook is designed to provide information about our school’s procedures, programs, and activities. Please use this handbook for guidance and reference throughout the school year. Please contact the school’s office if you have any specific questions.

A handbook and code of conduct sign-off form will be available the week of August 3 in PowerSchool. Please sign off that you have reviewed and understand the handbook and NASD Code of Conduct. Completing this PowerSchool form will ensure that you have access to PowerSchool to view schedules on the release date.

Class Assemblies facilitated by NAI Principals will occur during the first week of school to review important expectations as well.

NASD CODE OF CONDUCT

We believe clear expectations are critical in establishing a safe and welcoming learning environment for all students. Therefore, the Principals will have beginning-of-the-year assemblies with each grade level on August 20 and 21 to welcome them to the 2026-27 school year and review expectations for the year.

Students will be asked to sign a Code of Conduct form acknowledging their understanding of the rules and guidelines of NAI and NASD. The form will be sent electronically to the parent/guardian of each student through PowerSchool. Students who do not sign the form are still expected to follow all rules and guidelines. Students are encouraged to ask the Principals for clarification as needed.

LAPTOP DISTRIBUTION

Thursday, August 6, 2026

11:00 AM - 12:30 PM

Incoming 9th graders and new-to-NASD 10th graders have the opportunity to pick up their District-issued laptop from 11-12:30pm in the NAI Auditorium.  Students picking up their laptop will also have the opportunity to walk their class schedule. While student schedules will not be available in PowerSchool until 6:00 p.m., printed copies of each student's schedule will be available at laptop pickup. Students are encouraged to use the printed schedule to locate their classrooms and become familiar with the building before the first day of school.

Any student unable to pick up their laptop before the first day of school can retrieve their laptop through the Help Desk located in room 307, next to the Library in C Hall. No classroom instruction will be missed due to not receiving a laptop prior to the first day of school.

Laptop Insurance information will be communicated by the District.

Additionally, the building will be open to students and families so students have the ability to walk their schedule.

WALK YOUR SCHEDULE NIGHT

Tuesday, August 13, 2026

6:00 - 7:30 PM

This is open to ALL NAI students! It’s a great opportunity to walk the halls, locate classrooms and find your locker. This is informal - the building will be open from 6 - 7:30 PM, so come whenever you can. Of course, parents and guardians are welcome to join their child! Shuttles will run from Carson Middle School beginning at 5:45. Parking will be available on campus, but will fill up quickly!

Laptops will also be available for pickup during this timeframe. Please follow the guidelines above.

NAI OPEN HOUSE

Thursday, September 3, 2026

6:30 - 9:00 PM

Open House is an excellent opportunity to gain further insight into the entire curriculum for your student’s grade level, along with classroom routines and procedures. We look forward to seeing you!

STUDENT SUPPLIES

Although our District supplies many of the items that students will need, there may be some additional items that teachers may request that they bring to school.

Each class may require different materials but for the first day of school, all you need is a writing utensil and your NASD-provided laptop.  Having a notebook or planner is also recommended.

STUDENT LOCKERS

Lockers will be assigned to every NAI student. Students will be able to see their locker number and combination in PowerSchool on August 6, 2026, at the same time that they are able to view their schedule. If they need help determining the location of their locker, they should come to the Main Office and ask one of the secretaries. If a student would like a different location, please see Mrs. Yokim in the Main Office. Changes are not guaranteed, as availability may vary.

Once a locker is assigned, only that student should use the locker. A locker combination will be shared with the student and they should not share this with any other student.

ARRIVAL & DISMISSAL AT NAI

For the safety of our students, staff, and car riders, our school has specific procedures during arrival and dismissal.

It takes all of us to keep everyone safe during these busy times. Please note that the first period starts at 7:28 AM. Any arrivals after this time would be considered a “tardy” to school.

  • AM Dropoff: 6:50 AM - 7:15 AM
  • PM Pickup: 2:15 PM - 2:30 PM

Please abide by school zone speed limits and yield to all pedestrians in crosswalks, so they can safely enter our building.

No Early Dismissals are granted after 2:00 PM to ensure that our daily dismissal is safe and unimpacted. All Early Dismissals must occur prior to 2:00pm and require a parent note to be submitted the morning of the early dismissal.

Traffic Supervision & Support:

  • NAI Security will be outside in the afternoon directing traffic.
  • NAI Staff and NA School Police are positioned throughout the exterior (and interior) of NAI during arrival and dismissal.
  • AFJROTC cadets will be outside in the morning.

Please see the map of traffic drop-off patterns.

Aerial traffic map of North Allegheny Intermediate High School showing vehicle drop-off flow, enter and exit routes near Cumberland Road, bus loop lanes along Saginaw Drive, and highlighted 'Do Not Drop Off' warning zones.

NASD buildings are monitored by cameras on both the interior and exterior to review events should they occur.

Drivers are to enter the McKnight Elementary School entrance and proceed to one of the three designated drop-off lanes. They are to loop around and exit near McKnight or take the first lane and exit directly to Cumberland Road. Parents are reminded not to drop off or pick up their students on Cumberland Road. Parents should not drop off their student in front of the main entrance in the morning.

Reminder: 9th and 10th grade students are not permitted to drive to school. This includes driving to Beattie and driving/ parking off-site and walking to NAI.

As always, district transportation is provided for all North Allegheny Students. If you need information about your child’s bus route or have any questions/concerns, please do not hesitate to contact the NAI Main Office: 412-369-5530.

SECONDARY PARENT-TEACHER ORGANIZATIONS

The District believes that parent/guardian involvement impacts our students’ success in school. In listening to parent/guardian feedback in focus groups, the District heard a desire to create parent organizations at the secondary level to support our students and staff. NAI is proud to host YEAR 4 of our PTSO, and this year the PTSO will again be a combined 9-12 organization. Please consider joining our parents, teachers, students, and administrators to discuss important topics that contribute to the climate, culture and upcoming events that take place during our school year. Meetings will take place alternating between NAI and NASH and will involve conversations 9-12 as well as breakout conversations 9-10 and 11-12. We would love to partner with you!

NAI/NASH PTSO Meeting dates, locations and times are:

  • Wednesday, September 9, 2026: Ponce Room, Baierl Center 9:00 AM
  • Wednesday, October 7, 2026: NAI 8:30 AM
