DISTRICT INPUT NEEDED IN SURVEY FOR BIRD CONSERVANCY RESEARCH

The Bird Conservancy of the Rockies, a nonprofit based out of Fort Collins, CO, is leading a research project to better understand perspectives on ranch and farm land managers’ willingness to engage in several grassland conservation activities within conservation districts. Ultimately, they will combine this information with maps of key areas to conserve grasslands in order to help improve their conservation delivery and that of other organizations across the U.S. Great Plains. Please consider supporting this critical research that will inform conservation efforts of multiple organizations across the Great Plains. They will share reports detailing findings with those who participate. The survey will only take approximately 15 minutes to complete.

Responses are needed from the areas highlighted in the map below.

Any staff or board member in your conservation district may take this survey. They encourage a single response from whoever feels qualified to estimate willingness to engage in conservation behaviors among ranchers and farmers in your conservation district. Rough estimates are expected and the respondent will be able to express their level of certainty in their answer. Questions can be directed to justin.beall@birdconservancy.org.

HEAR LEADERSHIP TIPS & TRICKS FROM NACD'S PRESIDENTS ASSOCIATION

Over the past few months, NACD has brought you opportunities to learn more about your NACD membership, check-in with NACD's President, find out how staff and our volunteer leadership support your work, and provided additional resources to help you understand the organization. Now, we have a chance for you to learn more about how you can use your own leadership skills to further engage as an individual in the organization!

On January 15, at 3:00 p.m. ET, join NACD’s Presidents Association, a group of former NACD and State Association Presidents, for a Conservation Coffee on Leadership Tips and Tricks! NACD’s Secretary-Treasurer (and former President of the South Dakota Association of Conservation Districts) Karl Jensen will be joined by Dr. Carol Knight, current NACD Southeast Executive Board Member and former President of the Alabama Association of Conservation Districts. They’ll share information on relationship building at the national level, like how to seek out mentorship from others, supporting the next generation of leaders, opportunities to lead at the national level and how to plan for next steps, and how to manage time as a volunteer board member while staying happy and motivated.

Registration is free online; registrants will receive a Zoom link after registering. The session will be recorded and available on our YouTube channel after the event.
