Alexander H. Beard, Jr.

April 8, 1942 – May 1, 2026

We write to share the news that Alexander H. Beard, Jr., died peacefully at his home in New York City on May 1, 2026. Alex was a longtime member of St. Bart’s and served on the Vestry.

Alex was born in New York City and graduated from Yale College in New Haven, CT, with a degree in Political Science. Commissioned through ROTC, he served as a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army from 1965-1967, and was stationed in Okinawa, Japan. Following his military service, Alex earned an MBA in Accounting and Finance from Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ. He went on to a career as a Certified Public Accountant, working with firms like Price Waterhouse, United Brands, General Host and Coopers & Lybrand.

Alex was married to Judy, his beloved wife of 57 years, who predeceased him in 2022. Together, the couple built a life centered on family, faith, and community. They were devoted members of St. Bart’s for more than 50 years. Their two children, Jeremy and Valerie, grew up at the church, attended Sunday school, and were each married at St. Bart’s.

Reserved by nature, Alex valued loyalty and tradition. He was an active member of the Yale Club of New York City, where he served on both the House and Audit Committees. As a lover of music and the arts, Alex enjoyed attending concerts at the New York Philharmonic and visiting the Metropolitan Museum of Art with Judy, where she generously volunteered her time. He also delighted in weekday lunches at Neary’s Pub and Sundays after church at Smith & Wollensky’s, favorite rituals that brought together family, friends, and conversation.

Alex is survived by his son, Jeremy (Lindsay) of New York, his daughter, Valerie (Wilson) of California, three grandchildren (Caroline, Alexis and Spencer), and his brother, Henry.

A funeral service will be held for Alex at St. Bart’s on Saturday, August 29, 2026 at 2 pm.

May Alex and all of God’s beloved rest in peace and rise in glory.
