Dean's Newsletter June 2023
Dear Friends,

Commencement was a wonderful day. On May 20th, we celebrated with our talented graduates and their families and friends. These 2023 graduates persevered through unprecedented obstacles during their law school careers: COVID, remote learning, ice storms, smoke and wildfires and national unrest. Well-deserved congratulations to all!

This summer is a noisy but exciting time at the law school. We are building a teaching
courtroom (formerly classroom 5) as the centerpiece for our new Advocacy Center. (More
about the Center in the next newsletter!) We are also remodeling classroom 6 and updating the Boley Law Library. Boley will sport a new circulation desk and new offices for our librarians. Construction for these new spaces should wrap up by late August. This winter we will transform our beautiful Wood Hall study area to provide better comfort for our students and to incorporate a flexible event space.

Meanwhile, I am enjoying traveling to visit with alumni, most recently in Alaska and
Seattle. Faculty are busy with summer research projects and many graduates are studying for July’s Bar Exam which will be held on our campus – we wish them the best of luck!

I hope the summer brings you some relaxing and rejuvenating time with family and friends. Please let us know if your travels bring you to Portland – we would love to see you!

Warmest wishes,
Dean Jennifer Johnson
