From the Office of Principal Ledesma
Dear Teddies,
Over the past couple of days, many of you may have seen comments from national officials in the news describing Somali Minnesotans in harmful terms. Words like these can leave our students and families feeling targeted and unwelcome.
That description does not reflect the state of Minnesota, the city of Minneapolis, or the Roosevelt we know.
Our Somali students and families are a huge part of our community, historically and currently. They are scholars, college graduates, athletes, artists, student leaders, professionals, and friends. Their parents are partners who show up for their students and this community every day. The same is true of our new immigrant families, who have chosen Minneapolis as home and trust us with their children’s education. We are proud to be one of the most diverse high schools in Minneapolis, and that diversity is one of our greatest strengths.
At Roosevelt, all are welcome. We believe that each student is distinctive and irreplaceable. In Minneapolis Public Schools, we love and value each of them. We will continue to work to keep our school a safe, respectful, and supportive place for all students to learn.
If your student is feeling upset, our deans, counselors, social workers, and administrators are here, and students can stop by the Main Office to check in. Families are always welcome to contact me directly at Christian.Ledesma@mpls.k12.mn.us or reach out to any administrator.
I also ask all of us, students, staff, and families, to lead with kindness in the days ahead. Check in on one another. Speak up when someone is being treated unfairly. That is who we are as Teddy Nation.
Thank you for trusting us with your children.
With gratitude, always,
Christian Alberto Ledesma
Principal, Roosevelt High School

Ledesma@mpls.k12.mn.us o a comunicarse con cualquier administrador.
Christian Alberto Ledesma
Director, Roosevelt High School
Laga soo bilaabo Xafiiska Maamulaha Ledesma
Teddys-ka sharafta leh,
Labadii maalmood ee la soo dhaafay, qaar badan oo idinka mid ah ayaa laga yaabaa inaad aragteen faallooyin ka yimid mas'uuliyiinta qaranka oo ku jira wararka oo ku tilmaamaya dadka Soomaalida ah ee Minnesota ereyo waxyeello leh. Erayadan oo kale waxay ka dhigi karaan ardaydeenna iyo qoysaskeenna inay dareemaan bartilmaameed iyo inaan la soo dhaweyn.
Sharaxaaddaasi ma muujinayso Minnesota, Minneapolis, ama Roosevelt aan naqaanno.
Ardaydeenna iyo qoysaskeenna Soomaaliyeed waa qayb weyn oo ka mid ah bulshadeenna, taariikh ahaan iyo hadda. Waa aqoonyahanno sharaf leh, ciyaartoy, farshaxanno, hoggaamiyeyaal arday, iyo saaxiibo. Waalidiintoodu waa lammaane maalin kasta u soo muuqda bulshadan. Sidoo kale waa run qoysaska soogalootiga cusub, kuwaas oo Minneapolis u doortay inay hoy u noqoto oo nagu aaminay waxbarashada carruurtooda. Waxaan ku faannaa inaan nahay mid ka mid ah dugsiyada sare ee ugu kala duwan Minneapolis, kala duwanaanshuhuna waa mid ka mid ah awoodahayaga ugu weyn.
Roosevelt, dhammaantiin waa la soo dhaweynayaa. Waxaan aaminsanahay in arday kastaa uu yahay mid gaar ah oo aan la beddeli karin. Dugsiyada Dadweynaha ee Minneapolis waxaan jecelnahay oo aan qiimeynaa mid kasta oo ka mid ah. Waxaan sii wadi doonnaa inaan ka shaqeyno sidii dugsigeenna looga dhigi lahaa meel ammaan ah, ixtiraam leh, iyo taageero leh oo dhammaan ardaydu ay wax ku bartaan.
Haddii ardaygaagu uu dareemayo xanaaq, madaxdayada, la-taliyayaashayada, shaqaalaha bulshada, iyo maamulayaasha ayaa halkan jooga, ardayduna waxay imaan karaan Xafiiska Weyn si ay u soo booqdaan. Qoysaska had iyo jeer waa la soo dhaweynayaa inay si toos ah ila soo xiriiraan Christian.Ledesma@mpls.k12.mn.us ama la xiriiraan maamule kasta.
Waxaan sidoo kale ka codsanayaa dhammaanteen, ardayda, shaqaalaha, iyo qoysaska, inaan si naxariis leh u hogaamino maalmaha soo socda. Isku soo wada duub. Iska hadal marka qof si aan cadaalad ahayn loola dhaqmo. Taasi waa cidda aan nahay Teddy Nation.
Waad ku mahadsan tahay inaad nagu aamintay carruurtaada.
Mar walba mahadsanid,
Christian Alberto Ledesma
Maamule, Dugsiga Sare ee Roosevelt
