NA WELCOMES TIM MURRAY AS NEW ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL AT NASH | |

The North Allegheny School Board of Directors is pleased to announce the selection of Mr. Tim Murray as Assistant Principal at North Allegheny Senior High School.
Mr. Murray brings extensive experience to North Allegheny, having previously served as an Assistant Principal at Chartiers Valley High School for six years.
“I am thrilled to join the prestigious North Allegheny School District and look forward to collaborating with an outstanding team of school leaders as we work together in the pursuit of excellence,” said Mr. Murray.
Chartiers Valley High School experienced a notable enhancement in its Advanced Placement program performance during Mr. Murray's tenure. Under his guidance as the AP Coordinator, the proportion of students earning a score of 3 or higher on the Chartiers Valley AP exams rose from 51% in 2018 to 80% in 2024.
Before his appointment in the Chartiers Valley School District, Mr. Murray held positions as Assistant Principal at Weir High School and Wirt County High School, both located in West Virginia. Additionally, he served as an athletic director and business teacher at Wirt County High School.
Mr. Murray and his wife, Lacey, have been married for nine years. They are the proud parents of twin toddlers, Spencer and Scarlett. They also have two dogs, Roxie and Beauford.

FROM DISTRESS TO DE-STRESS: HOW TO HELP OURSELVES AND OUR CHILDREN | |
Please join the North Allegheny School District on October 7 from 6:30 to 8:00 PM at Carson Middle School for an insightful program on managing stress. The session will focus on providing support to students dealing with stress and anxiety. The presenters include Victoria Blosser, the Program Manager of School-Based Behavioral Services for UPMC Western Behavioral Health, and Anna Meighan, the Program Coordinator and School-Based Mental Health Therapist for Glade Run. They will share valuable insights on how to effectively cope with stress and anxiety. The presentation will be followed by an interactive dialogue and a Q&A session. | |

35 SENIORS RECOGNIZED AS COMMENDED STUDENTS IN NATIONAL MERIT SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM | |

Thirty-five North Allegheny seniors have earned Commended Student recognition in the 2025 National Merit Scholarship Program. Congratulations to the following North Allegheny seniors:
Rishan Abhishek, Michael Chalifoux, Marina Chiosea, Ryan Choe, Anvi Chopra, Jaycee Mae Faber, Chaokang Guo, Juliet Guttendorf, Ethan Hu, Iris Huang, Ashley Jang, Sophia Karki, Avni Khandelwal, Idan Leshem, Andrew Li, Zoe Li, Shea Mahon, Arya Mehta, Tanay Mishra, Emily Rojas Aguilera, Neelansh Samanta, Luke Schott, Santino Scialabba, Mihir Sharma, Diya Sonth, Emily Su, Henry Tang, Srivatsav Thirumala, Garen White, Kristina Wisniewski, Nathan Witherell, Benjamin Wu, Yao Xiao, Hannah Yang and Jennifer Zhang.
The 35 NASH students received their Letters of Commendation on Tuesday, September 24. About 34,000 Commended Students nationwide are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise. Commended Students placed among the top 50,000 students who entered the 2025 competition by taking the 2023 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT).

23 NA STUDENTS SELECTED TO PMEA HONORS ORCHESTRA | |

The auditions for the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association (PMEA) Honors Orchestra were held last week, and several students from North Allegheny successfully auditioned to become part of this prestigious group.
Around 180 students participated in the auditions from various school districts across PMEA District 1, which covers Allegheny, Fayette, Greene, Washington, and Westmoreland Counties. Out of these, approximately 90 students were chosen to be part of the PMEA Honors Orchestra, with 23 students coming from North Allegheny.
The talented students from North Allegheny who secured spots in this esteemed group of musicians are:
Chloe Bayer (viola), Owen Chen (cello), Josh Chou (violin), Matt Chou (cello), Sammie Hong (violin), Karin Hoppo (violin), Shuma Hoppo (violin), Brian Huang (viola), Sophia Karki (violin), Megumi Kawabe (violin), Allyson Kim (violin), Linda Kong (violin), Claire Lee (viola), Gabby Lee (violin), Muriel Liu (violin), Ben Ma (bass), Dylan Pak (viola), Ayak Sheikh (cello), Ellie Tang (cello), Chengxi Tao (violin), Sri Thirumala (violin), Hannah Yang (cello), and Leo Yu (violin).
The PMEA Honors Orchestra will practice a challenging program of string orchestra music for a performance with a guest conductor at this year’s Honors String Orchestra Festival, which will take place at Upper St. Clair High School on November 15–16.

AFJROTC CADETS RECEIVE FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS ACADEMIC AWARD | |

On September 20, the Friday Night Lights Academic Award honored North Allegheny junior Elizabeth Franklin and sophomore Suraj Raina. Franklin and Raina served as captains for the North Allegheny Air Force JROTC, and their team secured third place at this year’s StellarXplorers Nationals. During the first quarter of North Allegheny’s 36-14 win over Norwin, Franklin, and Raina were recognized on the field and presented with a special Friday Night Lights Academic Award certificate on Military Appreciation Night at Newman Stadium. Three other team captains, Jacob Collins, Conor Griffin, and Kylie Walk have graduated and are currently serving in the U.S. Military.
During the on-field ceremony, the following individuals were also present: CEO/Founder of the It’s About the Warrior Foundation, Steve Monteleone; NASH Principal, Matt Buchak; Senior Master Sergeant, Doug Eggert; Lieutenant Colonel, Don Accamando; NAI Principal, Dr. Heather Hibner; and North Allegheny Superintendent, Dr. Brendan Hyland.

The students were block-based coding their Spheros using the Sphero Edu App on their North Allegheny School District iPads. These Spheros were purchased with a North Allegheny Foundation Grant. | |

500 CAREER SAVES FOR KAYLA JOYCE | |
North Allegheny senior goalie Kayla Joyce reached a rare career milestone in high school field hockey on Thursday night. In a conference matchup with Pine-Richland, the Northwestern University commit surpassed 500 career saves, the most in program history. Last season, Joyce made a single-season record 311 saves. It was the third-highest single-season save total in the National Federation of High School Associations (NFHS) national record book. | |

When the North Allegheny football team hosts neighborhood rival Pine-Richland for a non-conference game on Friday, October 18, it will be a "Pink Out" Night at Newman Stadium. Help the Tigers sideline cancer by purchasing pink clothing apparel with the proceeds going to the American Cancer Society.
