Summer Reset

A characteristic of a quality program is setting aside time every few months to focus on reviewing your program documents and environment. If you need assistance checking your documents and your space, please contact your local specialist to complete a Walkthrough or an Environmental Observation.

Annual Training Hours and By Request Training

The Training Year ends on June 30th. Please check your training record on ECE-TRIS to ensure you have enough training hours for your program. All staff within a Certified Home are required to have a minimum of 9 hours of training per training year. All staff within a Licensed Home or Faciilty are required a minimum of 15 hours of training per training year. If you need assistance in finding trainings to take, please reach out to your local specialist.

In addition, the WKU Family Child Care Network is still offering by request training. If you contact our main office, we can set you up with one of our trainers to help get a training that suits your and your programs needs.

Regulation Reminder

While we head outside this summer, make sure you are taking the proper precautions to ensure a safe and fun play environment. Create a checklist to help keep track of the following items: Sunscreen Consent Forms are all updated and signed; Sunscreen has a place in your program that remains inaccessible to children; Outside Play Space is free from play hazards; etc.

Another thing to keep in mind are potential accidents. Burns are an increased risk during summer when we go play on hot equipment. Positioning your play equipment in the shade, or even placing a towel over slides and swings to help reduce direct sun exposure while not in use, can make a great difference!

And another reminder, there are specific regulations regarding pool usage within Certified Programs, pools are not allowed at all in Licensed Programs, and no program is allowed to use trampolines of any kind.
