AgAcademy partners with Springfield

Community Gardens 🥕

AgAcademy students visited Osage Prairie Farm in south Springfield to learn about community-supported agriculture.

In October, AgAcademy students learned about Springfield Community Gardens, an organization dedicated to growing fresh, nutritious food for local schools and senior centers throughout the community. Later in the month, AgAcademy fifth-grade students visited an SCG garden and harvested sweet potatoes, which will go to local families in need of food assistance. This experience reinforces the program’s purpose of teaching students about agriculture, environmental stewardship and food systems. “We love the opportunities our AgAcademy students have to learn beyond the classroom,” said AgAcademy leaders.

I Choose SPS: Gwyn Pavon, ELD Administrative Assistant

"When the opportunity came up to work with the SPS English Language Development team, it felt like the perfect fit. My husband is from Nicaragua, and when he moved to the U.S. after we got married, I watched him go through the entire process of learning English and adapting to a new culture. I saw the wins, but I also saw how tough it could be on him. That experience really stuck with me. I realized I could take my work skills and use them to support kids and families who are going through the exact same thing my husband did."
