May brings a strong sense of progress and preparation across the Horseshoe Bay POA, and we are pleased to share several important updates with our members.

Committee assignments for the year have been finalized. These committees are essential to advancing initiatives, addressing member concerns, and supporting the Association's overall direction. The Board has also been actively working on ongoing matters, including enforcement issues, responding to member requests, and daily operations at Quail Point Lodge. These efforts require steady attention and coordination and remain a key focus as we move forward.

Looking ahead, the Board has distributed a Long Range Planning Survey to members electronically. If you are a Horseshoe Bay POA member and did not receive the survey, please reach out so we can provide the link. Your input is critical. The feedback will help guide future decisions, including a potential one-time assessment tied to long-range improvements. Broad participation will ensure the direction reflects our community's priorities.

Planning is well underway for our Liberty, Community & 250 Years Strong Independence Day celebration. Board member Bryce Harris continues to lead as Chair of Events, coordinating volunteers and securing sponsors. We are grateful to the many groups and organizations that have stepped forward to support this event. STAR Women will manage children’s games, NXTLVL Marine will manage/sponsor the land and boat parades, Hosier N Friends will oversee the dog parade, HSBBA will bring watermelon, WWICS will serve lemonade, and The Resort of Horseshoe Bay will provide food. These partnerships create a meaningful and memorable celebration for the community.

As we move into May, one of the most anticipated traditions returns to the lake. Boogie at the Bay kicks off on May 6 and continues every Wednesday evening at Quail Point Lodge. Produced by HSBBA, this weekly gathering brings neighbors and friends together for music and relaxed evenings along the waterfront. Bring a lawn chair or blanket, pack your favorite food and drinks, and enjoy the spirit of community under the Horseshoe Bay sky. We are proud to serve as the main sponsor for the May 13 Boogie at the Bay.

Thank you for your continued involvement and support. Your engagement is what keeps Horseshoe Bay moving forward in all the right ways.

Bringing Knowledge to the Community

by Whit Holcomb

One of the most meaningful ways the Horseshoe Bay POA serves the community is by creating opportunities to learn, connect, and grow together. This commitment has been clear this year through our expanding Community Education Series.

From March through June, we hosted two education events each month, covering a wide range of practical, engaging, and relevant topics. The response has been strong, showing our community values access to reliable information in a welcoming setting.

This effort ties directly into our mission. The POA mission is to be a resource for members, and part of that promise includes offering social, recreational, and educational activities and information. These events are one of the most direct ways we bring that mission to life.

Looking ahead, we are excited to announce the schedule for the remainder of our 2026 education events. All sessions are free and open to the community, and everyone is invited to attend. Whether you are a longtime resident or new to the area, these events are designed to be approachable and useful.

In May, we are featuring a hands-on orchid workshop led by Mark Sullivan, giving attendees practical insight into caring for and maintaining these plants. Also in May, we will host a session on IRA planning, offering guidance for those looking to better understand and manage their retirement strategy.

June will bring two important topics focusing on health and planning for the future. A home health planning seminar will provide clarity on navigating care options, while our Oral and Heart Health presentation will explore the connection between dental health and overall wellness.

In July, we will take a different approach with a travel seminar offering a fresh perspective on planning trips and experiences. This session will not be led by a travel agent, making it unique and worth attending.

As we continue building the calendar, we still have two open education slots for 2026. This gives us the opportunity to bring in new ideas and speakers that reflect community interests. If there is a topic you would like covered, we encourage you to share your suggestions.

The Community Education Series continues to grow and is quickly becoming one of our most valuable offerings. It is simple, accessible, and designed with purpose. We have some of these events summarized with their materials on our website blog.

Spring Is Peak Trail Season

If you have not stepped onto the trails lately, you are missing one of the best times of the year. After the April rains, the Slick Rock Spur and surrounding greenbelt have come alive in a way that feels almost unfair to the rest of the calendar.

Wildflowers are everywhere, from bright bluebonnets to bursts of yellow and purple tucked into every corner of the landscape. Even the rocky stretches have softened with fresh growth.

The creek beds hold pockets of water, grasses push up through the limestone, and shaded sections under the oaks and sycamores offer a cool, quiet contrast to the open sunlit paths. Every turn gives you something new, whether a patch of color, a glimpse of wildlife, or the calm you forgot you needed.

Accessing the Slick Rock Spur Nature Trail is simple. One convenient entry point is near 1400 Forrest Circle, where you can step right onto the trail and begin exploring. From there, the path connects to a growing network that winds through scenic overlooks, wooded areas, and open stretches filled with seasonal blooms. Additional access points are near the campground and along Hi Mesa, making it easy to start your walk from multiple spots depending on how far you want to go.
